@Cycovision
CDs burn normally and I can read both CDs and DVDs without problems. I have used different media, but I get the same error message except when using 1x DVD+R discs. When I use those discs the burn procedure appears to work, but I can't read the contents of the DVD. Interestingly enough the 1x DVD+R discs are burnt at 4x by Nero.

Ahhh, it's not the old +r and -r dilema is it? some drives (including mine) claim to be able to write to both formats but appear to write better to one rather than the other.
Try downloading the trial version of Roxio Easy CD creater maybe? Yes, it's a bit of a noddy burner but in this case I think it might be interesting. What I can't understand is how nero tries to write at 2.4x speed, normally it'll only burn using whole multiples, 2x, 4x, 8x etc. I'd like to know if roxio tries to do the same thing?

couple of questions-
1. do you have the lastest firmware for the dvd drive.
2. what is it you are trying to copy.
3. when you put the blank disc into the drive is windows regonising it ie go into my computer were the dvd is listed is it now a dvd disc instead of just the dive with a disc on top.

What version of zone alarm should i use? Last year I have been using ver5.5, but lately I've been using windows firewall only, so I'm bit outdated with za.

Latest version is 6.1 if I remember correctly, available from here:

As I said though, it's only really if you use the pro version that you need to have the most up to date version since the free version only blocks certain ports and applications that you haven't allowed.
Which is what a firewall is meant to do! Leave virus and spyware removal to your antivirus and antispyware apps, these all-in-one 'internet security suites' often cause more problems than they solve in my experience.

Hey all
Recently I tried to burn a film to DVD but the software I tried to use said no drives had been detected. I went into my computer and found out that both my CD drives had vanished. I tried to put a CD into both but nothing happens.
The first drive is a standard DVD ROM drive
The second is CD-RW drive
I then went into device manager and found an exclamation mark by both the drives! It said something about no hardware found (code 41) !!!!!!!
Please Help

uninstall the cd drives from device manager. then reboot. if it finds them again (add hardware wizard) then re install drivers. if not then i think theres a connection problem
