guys i have downloaded the latest F/W and 90% of the bugs listed here i didn't notice so i think you should reupdating your phones again with stable connection and with firewall off and don't forget to not restore the backedup data in the previous F/W i found even restoring only contacts will bring previous bug to appear..

regards,

After updating my phone earlier this week m-router no longer works
Advanced setting tab reads:
(Additional COM ports errors)
COM 6 (Stopped : the system cannot find the file specified - error 0x80070002)
In addition the pc suite no longer recognizes my phone either. I backed up my contacts and HAVE to get them back on my phone as I did not write them down (Dumb move i know)
I updated the pc suite to the newest version and my back up is still within the suite but it shows as my phone not connected. I re-installed the suite and towards the end of the install a microsoft box pops up and reads "Pre-install USB drivers has encountered a problem and needs to close" Any help would be appreciated as i really need those phone numbers even if there is a way to read them off the computer within the suite. Thanks

The PCSuite is no less buggy than the P990 OS. First, you can safely remove the additional com ports if you are using USB connection.
When you get the windows message that the device was not installed properly, open the "Device Manager" and find under "Universal Serial Bus Connectors" 2 items for the P990. If you see only one, no problem. Just uninstall it, then take out the USB cable and reconnect, the system should go through the routine of installing USB drivers and you should see 2 items in the "Universal Serial Bus Connectors" and 2 under "Ports" clearly identified as P990 stuff. You may have to repeat this process several times until it works.
Several months ago I downloaded a newer version of m-router but since then the company seems to have closed shop and the download is no longer available. See if you can find "mRouter3Installer_v31042.exe" (8.29 MB) on the web. Just keep trying the routine above, eventually it works

M-router now recognizes my phone, but the pc suite still doesn't (Version 1.2.15) Any other suggestions. Thanks.

Update my phone again... now it seems that there are no freezes when calling to someone and after applying themes. The only issue remaining is on the damn camara. When i take a photo it takes 4or5 times more than with the previous firmware to be able to delete it or take another. I believe that its all SEUS fault. It downloaded and installed the update very fast( in about 15min i had the update complete)... a lot less than the previous firmware. dont know if this is normal.... :S

I've always been a strong supporter of the P990, and I've defended it since day one. And since that time, we've always said, "I'm sure it will be fixed in the next firmware." Well I just recently took a look back at the old threads where we started reporting bugs and problems, and I have found that I still have most of the same issues.

I am very pleased that SE have addressed most of the memory and speed problems, but I'm disappointed at the same time that they have failed to fix many of the original bugs. Luckily, I've adapted to such problems, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be fixed.

The main reason I bring this up is because I was somewhat shocked when the video recordings still didn't match up with the audio after this most recent update. Video recording is practically useless, and it's just unbelievable that this hasn't been addressed. My other big gripe is the standby screen, which is also relatively pointless since it has no customizable options (like M600, etc.).

I know SE has a lot on their plate with new phones and such, but it would be nice to see a few noticeable changes other than "supposed" speed enhancements and subjective improvements.

Hi all,
Please don't all jump down my throat as i really am NOT an SE hater or basher but really just how many times on a 6 month old device are you expected to have to reformat the phone do a master reset and reload the latest firmware. Whilst still not actually being able to make a back and restore either for fear of bugs reappearing which each time means you have to start from the beginning and re input everything yet again. Then to only find that the PC suite or M-Router is no longer working, and yes i know some of you experience none of these problems but as this thread is already 17 pages long in 11 days and is full of people with lots of problems don't you think this is ever so slightly ridiculous for what is meant to be a flagship device with what is it 4 or 5 firmware updates so far. It can't all be user error either can it? I really feel sorry for so many of you that expected and deserved so much better for an expensive piece of equipment. Is it really any wonder the price is now heading below £200 for a P990 and the M600 down to about £150 and not much more than £200 for a W950. Ares I'm dieing to here your explanation of whats gone wrong and how you support your claims that SE are getting it right because from an outsiders point of view it sure don't look like it to me. Especially the latest one on the W950 that after the last update no longer supports Bluetooth 2.0 just what in the world is going on @SE. Ericsson used to build and supply quality equipment SE are not in the same league at the moment they may design pretty phones that have great specs but they are seriously flawed.

Well, i dont think that many know that you have to do a format and a master reset and then do the update. If you do this, then its working great

I also experience a lot less problems than most posters here do. And my use of the p990 revolve around the use of the media player, the camera, opera mini with wifi, pdf reader, and gmail. I've never felt the urge to install any other programs unnecessarily. I've always felt that the more programs you install, the more 'impure' your os becomes, the more problems you get.
On another note, a very quick and easy way of backing up your address book and calendar is to select all and bluetooth it to a fellow SE user. But note that after u beam it back to yourself, you lose all the folder categorisation.

@Brick

I have never made a back up with any smart phone i use and find the easiest way of having all my contacts with all the fields for numbers e-mails etc is just to sync with Outlook same thing obviously for my Calendar, but i suppose that easy for me to say as i use Outlook to run my life. I also have never had any difficulty setting up E-Mail either and like some only tend to install 3rd party apps i really need as i agree too many can tend to make things go wrong even though they shouldn't having said that on another Symbian Forum i actually listed all my additional apps on my N93 and got a shock at just how many there were. But none are replacing things the phone already has for instance i always use the in built Calendar and Contacts, Video and Music player although usually add a good multiple alarm program, proper Task Manager as IMO nearly all inbuilt ones are pretty useless in my experience and Tom Tom Sat Nav is a must have app for me. the only other apps are Nokia provided which is device search app and a Podcasting app and now Fring for Skype.

I have updated my phone @ my local SE dealer and i do not know if they first formated internal drive and then master reseted it.. I will try it as soon as update becomes available at SEUS. My provious question was obviously adressed to death ears.

So for the fifth time.. I am asking you what does M600i have that P990i hasnt? Chess Professional works flawlessly on M600i, after 5 moves on P990i the phone is barely responsible. Any clues?

I`ve heard it before and seen it 5 mins ago; I was charging the phone cause of total drainage. When i turn it on it took about 5,6 sec to get operator name (including pin typing). So i am asking you how is that possible that an unplugged (from AC adapter) takes 10 times more to power-on? Does P990 need so much energy to turn on? Maybe start-up needs more and a batter can`t provide it?

Well now ive done a master reset and the camara issue seems to disapear too! This is very very wierd! My phone was doing alright before i udpate the first time. After the first update it become a big sh**. Then i formated the internal disc and done a new firmware update but there was still problems. Update again and those problems dissapear and a new problem appeared (camara problem). Now with this master reset it seems to work fine. For those who say that its because of backups and 3party aplications i agree that sometimes this maybe the reason. But in my case the only thing that i restore is the contacts and agenda from memory stick and installed no aplications after done the first internal disc format.
