turning off while charging will only speed up the charging time .

I agree, since there's no load so the battery will charge faster. I don't see how it could make your battery life better.

Ah it's the battery topic again!
The phones will have a charge circuit included, so the charge current passes thru this circuit into the batt. This charges the batt by a constant current/const voltage method until the batt is full. At the full state, the rate of charge decreases and the charge circuit switches off. Also known as delta peak charging. I'm pretty sure that the li-ion don't continue to trickle charge, but the nicad and nimh do, typically at 1/10 current capacity.

Discharging the batt is also governed by a similar process, with the batt reaching a near empty state, the phone will switch off to prevent a full discharge. In a nonregulated discharge, it is possible for the weaker cells to have their polarity reversed. Subsequent charges can't fix this.
It is not advised to fully discharge li-ion batts as it causes them to age faster. Best life is obtained by charging when it reaches 1/8 full, and if the phone has switched it's self off, don't switch on til you charge.

My batt. on P900 recently will not hold a charge. If I plug it in, the batt icon does not flash like normally, led does not stay lit. The batt. % will increase like it's charging but once removed from charger, it will drained in an hour to 10%. Is this a faulty batt. or a phone problem. I don't mind buying a new batt. if that's the problem. Also the phone seems a little more warmer than usual. Any input, advice is greatly appreciated.

Mostly a case of batt faulty.

@baseballfanz. From the symptoms it sounds like one of the cells has begun to break down. This causes the internal resistance to rise, and the batt will generate heat as the current flows through the cell. The damaged cell will have minimal capacity and doesn't charge or discharge effectively. Only solution is a new battery, and if possible check the manf date and buy a recent one as incorrect storage, eg temperature, causes the cells to age and reduces useful life.

Appreciates all inputs, been very helpful. Thank You to govigov and ijefferies. I order a new battery, hope that's the cause of it. Another things my original battery came as a model BST-15 1260mAh, the sonyericsson site and a few other place that have OEM battery have the same model number but their's are all 1000 mAh, still work with P900?
Thanks again
