what do you think about the Nokia 6680 Brix talked about, how would you compare it with the P910i?

The 6680 is a Symbian series 60 phone, so in terms of features, it should be comparable to the P910i. BUT in terms of functionality/performance, I do not know. For one, the keypad of the 6680 will limit text input speeds, as against the P910i's touchscreen.

Purely as a basic PDA/phone combo nothing beats the P-series but some of us demand higher specs and thus 3G/EDGE is a deciding factor when thinking about the next phone. 3G might be available in Nigeria sooner than all you sceptics think. Have faith. This message was posted from a WAP device

@brix: No doubt. 3G is already available on a CDMA platform. But what are the charges? N75,000 to obtain the module and a N6,000 monthly subscription. Madness! Very, very few Nigerians can afford that.

Like I said, 3G is not economically viable in the country at the moment, and won't be for at least a few years.

What we really need now is something to deliver basic internet access to the mass market. 3G is not that medium.

Ok, maybe I'm a bit too optimistic about 3G technology...right now I'm using it to access this site. What I do know though is that the key to closing the digital divide in lies in wireless solutions. In five years time 3G should be cheaper. This message was posted from a WAP device

@brix: Exactly. 3G will be commercially viable in the next few years. Even at the moment, GPRS is still considered a luxury by many.

What is absurd to me is the attitude of operators like Mtel and MTN on whose networks neither CSD nor GPRS has been taken to significantly, and who suddenly want to setup expensive 3G networks!

I am sure they will set it up. But I can imagine that less than 2 percent of their subscribers will be able to afford the service.

Aya you have to understand this is a Nigerian thing, we always want to be associated with the most sophisticated. Whether or not such sophistication is practicable does not matter. Lets watch and see what mtel & mtn have up their sleeves. Thanks 4 the advice on the phones. You too Brix

I just met AYA about 30 minutes ago and it was illuminating.
Some of you guys may know, I have been wondering about the compatibility of glodirect with my phone. Needless to say, glo customer care had sworn it was an impossibility, getting glodirect to work on my p910. The great AYA sorted it and much more in a very enjoyable meeting.
I am fully online, the only thing I can't do is send and receive faxes and that is cause the phone wasn't built for it.
Guys help me say thanks to our own guru.

If and when you have the time, you may want to take another trip to the GloWorld where you were told your P910i wouldnt work with their network.

Let's say its just to make a point and check out the looks on their faces when you tell them they lied like dogs

Maybe Mike Adenuga will give me a contract to train his guys

Aya don't just say "maybe" approach their H.R dept. This episode has exposed that they aren't as competent as they ought to be. Only God knows how many people they've turned away with the excuse that the P910i isn't a PDA.
