Yep, went to buy a 1100 as a birthday gift today, saw the special on offer. Branding i can certainly live with (i think) I'll need to spend time reading the relevant threads in order to form a clearer picture of its implications.

I don't know what the hell ANYONE's problem with a branded mobile is???
Firstly it works.
Secondly it's only branded BECAUSE the "brander" and a "big brander" like VODAFONE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. They don't brand any mobile... THEY BRAND ONLY THOSE THAT ARE THE BEST AND ARE ONE OF A KIND>
And YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES... Vodaphone's, HAS FREEEEEEEEEEEEE internet NO MATTER what websites you surf. GET IT IN YOUR HEAD PEOPLE.(I am calm for those who don't think so... but it's simpler than simpler: Free internet access with a Vodafone)

@slssl: Before you bust a vein use the search function and see how many people hate brande phones on Esato. The only reason ppl buy them for the most part is because they're cheap.

@ Brix like Vodacom Ceo said SA cell industry is still the fastest growing in the world and the most succesfull. He also said our rates are one of the cheapest in world. The only country that is cheaper than us is Brazil.Did you know in the UK they pay up to 50% more for an sms than us.In the UK the networks charge up to R25 for 1meg out of bundle. Those countries that have lower call rates have lowest penetration.Again South Africa has the highest penetration and most successfull. If our prices were high than our cell industry should be a FAILURE which is NOT.

@ Tahir,
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with what you have stated,BUT only people in the UK who 'do not do their homework first' will pay up to 50% more than us.
Some examples:(on PAYG,not counting the quantities of free monthly sms's with various contracts.):
Try beating O2's online PAYG sims:300 sms's for £10 equals 3p to any UK network!(±35c per sms!)
Virgin sms to another Virgin phone is also 3p.
However,to all other networks,Virgin charges 10p.(Only then is it more expensive,if using the exchange rate as a reference.)
Next:T-Mobile is 5p per sms,using 'Mates Rates'.
Tesco:5p per sms to your fave 3 numbers,10p to all others.
Easymobile is about 7p flat rate per sms,if my memory serves me correctly.
The others are mostly much of a much, except the cheaper sms bundles, which I have not quoted.
Methinks I sticketh with O2 when in the UK...
Now MMS is a different story, averaging around 30p (±R3.50!) to 40p (±R4.50!!) ,but how many sms's are sent by the average person compared to mms's?

Forgot to mention that SA's international sms's are generally cheaper,if(again) one is purely using the exchange rate as a reference.Almost all UK networks charge around 20p (±R2.30)per international sms, with the exception of CPW's Mobileworld sims(15p),Easymobile (15p) or better still,if you pay a one-off fee of £4.99 with O2,you get ITT (International Talk & Text)for life. You are then charged only 10p(±R1.15c) per international sms...yes,exactly half the price of most of the others.
Now the crazy thing is,as I stated some time ago, with CPW's Mobileworld sims,it costs only 8p per minute to phone a SA landline at any time, yet costs 15p for 1 sms to SA with them.If you phone an SA cell with this sim,it jumps up to 20p per minute, also on a flat rate basis.
Pretty damn good, compared to 80p per minute if you are dof enough to phone SA from a Virgin sim or 90p from Orange.
Now Tahir,do you think I should mention SA's lovely cell network rates to phone foreign cell networks, for comparison?...

Oh boy, those internat call rates are horrendous, to say the least. Aint it something like R14 per minute? I called a buddy not too long ago using a Cell Sheep sim on the cheapest rate as per operator suggestion, still took a hammering...
