@ Brix when a network bundle goodies with phones on a contract, most of the time its going to get discontinued.

I think the K750i will be discontinued within 6-8 months from now.REASON:Most phones are 3G enabled.

For now the K750i is well priced if you compare it with phones in its class.

Since the K750i is on Vodafone Live.Price can drop quickly and get discontinued lightning fast. One GOOD example:SonyEricsson F500i(Vodafone Live) discontinued within 3 months of release on the Vodacom network.

Recently i noticed phones a getting discontinued in a max period of 12 months.Average within 6 months.

When you wait to get something, theres always something new or better coming. And theres no END to this

@Tahir, that certainly seemed to be the case with the 6630... It was barely available before the 6680 replaced it. A friend had his barely a month before the 6680 was being offered on exactly the same contract as he had just signed. This message was posted from a Nokia

If the k750 does indeed become surpassed in 7 or 8 months or so,it is bound to be available, albeit possibly bundled with other incentives etc until they completely disappear off the shelves.BUT how long that 'phase' would be is anybody's guess.Certainly the k750 will not disappear overnight and bargains are bound to be had by then.
Brix made the point regarding the market longevity of SE handsets, such as the t610 & k700.Both have been available way longer than 7-8 months!
However,Tahir may have a point that the k750's lifespan may be shorter due to the 3G selling point & pressure on SE to not fall behind other 3G handset manufacturers.
Again, who can truly say that they will not be still available a year from now, even if they are totally superceded by an all-singing,all-dancing 3G SE phone?
Another point: even if the k750 only lasts 7 or 8 months, the price of this handset after that elapsed time is going to be considerably less than what it is now...this is obvious!
Yes,3G is here to stay, but GSM's days are certainly not numbered yet... what % of the population will still only use GSM cellphones, just to phone with?If and when 3G handsets totally replace GSM,then fair enough. But we all know that normal calling is where the money's at for the networks.Oh,and if ICASA has its way, that will surely mean even slower progression and access for most of the population to switch to new 3G handsets...I really believe that GSM is far from dead and buried,at least for the near future...
Lastly,as for the 6630,Tahir did explain previously that Vodacom decided to rather concentrate their efforts on the 6680,due to the added advantages of the 6680 and the relatively close launch/market availability between these 2 handsets.

@ kryptik,
Did your mate get the 6630 through MTN?
I gotta admit,I would also be pretty naaked-off if that happened to me.
The 6630's are so heavily discounted in the UK due to the 6680's quick appearance..at £160-odd for a 6630 on UK PAYG,I can get 2 of them for the price of one 6680 and still have a few shekels left over!
Crazy...

@Tahir: From your answer about the K750 being discontinued in 6-8 months does that mean that Vodacom will have at least 80% of their subscribers covered for 3G? I'm not talking about some one-horse-town in the middle of the Karoo but the main metro centres and secondary markets ...I doubt it. This message was posted from a K700i

If i may digress from the discussion, anybody interested in ebooks and mobiles may find Cory Doctorow's book, Eastern Standard Tribe, a fascinating read. He paints a picture of what we can expect from our cellular manufacturers in a few years... It may be SF but it's worth a read... http://manybooks.net This message was posted from a Nokia

Will certainly check it out. Since I've never owned a Symbian handset ebooks have never appealled 2 me. The past couple of days I've been fascinated at finally getting a proper web browser for my phone with the news that Opera Mini has been launched but only in Norway...hopefully we'll be able to download it soon in South Africa. Yep, i was pleasantly surprised to read that thread! It makes the prospect of acquiring an SE handset so much more appealing indeed... Opera is fantastic, the company touts it as the fastest mobile browser, quite rightfully so too, imo This message was posted from a Nokia

Played around with Opera on a friend's 6600...nice browser, never thought they'd cater for the majority of mobile phone users. It's just a matter of time before that jar file is made available for download. This message was posted from a K700i
