Last time I used MTN I didn't experience any problems with Google's wapsite. Speaking of Google got to hand it to them, their mobile search has been fixed and I've discovered a lots of free games.

Yeah,I've noticed that 2.With my mtn sim inserted is impossible to download any googled pages.Speed wise I will say EDGE is just about the best at the moment SA has to offer. 3G is somewhat faster but usability wise I'll stick with EDGE for now (if given the choose). GPRS and GPRS+ aren't much of a difference. I tested most of them on a 6680 and async EDGE is the most usefull for browsing/downstreaming on a cell.If you use your cell as a modem for your laptop/pc switch to the syncronous mode (just over 100kb/sec up/down) is nice for simplex video chat using wm9 codec

Anybody have any suggestions on how to remedy this problem wth Google? There are other search engines which dolefully fail to compete wth Google...

Unfortunately not. Google is by far the best. Even for a PC nothing comes even close. At least thats my opinion.By a vodacom sim. They aren't that expensive :-) HOT TIP : buy a cell c sim and use it with mtn wap settings.It won't always log in but if it does . . .( Check your bill.)

Have you called MTN? I suspect it might be something on their side. Does the 3510i have an xhtml browser coz then you could check out Google's xhtml site... google.com/xhtml

@Brix, no xhtml :-( @Mario, yep, i use Vodacom for Google :o) Also, i use a CellC prepaid with MTN settings when both MTN and Vodacom go on strike, not as fast as i'd like but it does the job. Also, there is a huge list of servers which i access to speed things up sometimes...

@brix & all: hola!
Ahem.. some schooling here, please. I saw references to "GPRS+" in the last few posts. What is that if I may ask?

@AYA: I'm not going to go into the technical jargon this early in the morning suffice to say that the difference between GPRS and GPRS+ is just coding which allows the latter to accomodate more timeslots thus making MTN's GPRS faster than the other two networks. Most of the handsets sold in SA can cater for GPRS+. For a full detailed explanation check out the myadsl.co.za forums.

Aya, GPRS+ data speeds can reach anything up to 80kbps, it's basically GPRS on a little steriods.

@celltech: I'm leaving a cold and miserable Cape Town for the dry Highveld... Tomorrow I'm listening to a speech from our Finance Minister Trevor Manuel.
