Take a look again, what you're talking about is the Grey UI, the picture on JDC panel looks absolutely perfect and not over saturated like in Samsung.
@King Sony should come out with a better UI contrast which makes the colours and display look good and not clearly washed out. There is nothing wrong with the display

Pics reproduction on Z is on the same level as on other top devices.
Comparing those devices on UI is nonsense, Sony makes UI grey and tweaks contrast in many places in order to save battery.
You can complain about viewing angles but that's a different story.
And above shots are of poor quality, camera also alters the object.
Just don't get fooled by crap.

There is a mod on xda for black UI elements. I applied it and the screen looks better. Biggest mistake of Z is the grey UI elements. I hope they ditch them in the next update.

True. I find it really appalling that lots of people are trying really hard to make Sony looks bad. And I don't know whether it is a coincidence or not but it is always the same company they are praising (even when the product is NOT out). What's the deal with these people? Free popcorns?
I have seen XZ and iPhone 5. Without comparing both phones, I prefer iPhone's screen (like the menu, etc). But when I compared them with same photo, XZ has a more vibrant colour than iPhone (even with BE2 off).
I also compared XZ and S3. TBH, initially I really really thought S3 would win (simply because I used to believe what people said about its "magnificent" screen). To me, S3's UI is really bright (can't stare the screen too long and I got an eyesore from that). Yet, when I compared XZ and S3 with the same photo, XZ gave a better colour than S3.
So now I will only trust what I see with my own eyes.

AnandTech has some nice numbers, the Adreno 320 in Qualcomm Quad Krait is leading the list... Nexus 4 is faster than HTC One, and surprisingly much much much and much faster than Note 2 !!
The only thing the Note 2 is high is in Physics benchmarks, but still slower than One and Nexus 4 !!
I compared to Note 2 as it's the fastest Samsung offering now as S4 isn't available yet...
