This has been my understanding too. Surely SM has manufacturing facilities still in Japan.

So why would they have 2 factories all this time just for flagships if midranges are not "their " phones?

Basically, the crap phones are ODM. Anyway, the grey Xperia 1 looks amazing in real life. I saw something that might be the Compact, I really hope it gets high end internals because it looks pretty feasible as a 'smaller' device.

So all Xa and the new 10/10+ are ODM? And they ask $350/430 for that. Wow.
How did they loose that much money then? It's not like they made tons of phones every year. The flagships must have really crappy sales. Man the face palm is real with this thing.
The grey 1 looked so uninspiring on official images but real life ones look like they have some bluish hue.
Was that phone 21:9 @badassmam?

I agree ... At first you may think gray is awful. Photos seems to be very dark gray.
Then I watched few hands-on and gray was used.
It looks incredible. Still I think white is the best.
I dont like the purple.

@Ppl
It was a tall looking device but you would need to put it next to something like an iPhone X to get an understanding of the size, I would say that people used to the XZ1 Compact would not consider this as small and even myself who uses an XZ2 Compact but, it looks quite narrow.
