Bookmark topic
I just updated my K800i to the latest firmware with WotanServer. I did
not check the "Disable Play Now" button.
However, now where the Play Now button was is a generic Sony Ericsson icon labelled "wap.o2.co.uk".
Even if I switch the SIM card for another network (eg. Virgin), the text "wap.o2.co.uk" appears above the icon.
How do I change this? I didn't ask for Wotan to change the Play Now button.
Is it a bug in Wotan, or did I do something wrong?

Same thing happened to me. I didn't check the box for disabling play now but it did it anyway! It now shows a generic SE icon and my currently active data profile (in this case O2 GPRS WAP). The text should change to whatever your currently active data account is.
Pity Wotan closed their forum, it was much easier to tell them about these bugs!

Ah.. well... I've just found where to change the text that appears above the icon, after your tip!
Settings > Connectivity > Internet settings > Internet profiles > More (on selected profile) > Advanced > Change homepage
Then the 'Name:' field is the text it uses above the icon.
Actually, now its like this I prefer it to the Play Now button!

I've been trying to go through this thread but it's way too lengthy!
I have a few questions. I'm getting a K800 tomorrow on T-Mobile.
1. What branding does it have and should I get it debranded?
2. Also, will the phone be locked to t-mobile?
3. Best place online to get it debranded (which firmware) and unlocked?
Thanks in advance!

Happy new year to you all.
First of all.
Wottan use's Gen SE Firmware and don't modify them at all.
These are firmwares that are original issued with the phone.
Wottan purchase the firmware direct from SE and this is why they charge you to use there service.
Updating your phone at a service center / SEUS only over writes parts of your original firmware on the phone (Modification parts only)
Buying phones through the networks means that networks can make requests into the phone. like the 2sec delay when pressing the Internet button.
My self has never caught the button and the phone has never gone on the internet at all with out me knowing about it. So to me i like the instant button thing, I dont want to be holding down buttons for 2 senconds but thats a choice preference.
I also like non branded phones. I like the phone how SE intended it to be and not how the networks want me to use the phone for extra revenue.
Any way regarding th New firmware:
I have 2 K800i one with the old firmware and one with the new one.
There are no speed increase in the menus or how the phone is.
The new firmware does remove the Play now button (With what i think a more usefull button (Your Wap service) However again the is a choice thing.
There are no changes i can see in any of the menus, speed or how the phone handles tasks.
The new video preview feature is very cool and yes does crash the phone with large files.
I can also tell you, That if you have a wallpaper and the phone crashes you have set the pic back as wallpaper again.
Also when using a USB cable and you go into file transfer, when the phone has booted up again after unplugging the cable, you have to put the pic back on again as the wallpaper goes of.
Do I think the update is worth while.
Yes. One thing i get less crashes now than ive ever had even with the prev firmware.
Ok so its still got a few minor faults, These will be sorted in other updates. This is why we keep coming back to SE.
If you need to know any more please ask

1, T-mobile branding isnt all that bad, however the phone will have a few pink screens and pink t-mobile as one of the shortcuts.
2, Yes and currenlty there is 2 places to unlock your phone, One of them is using a service called Davinci
The other choice is to ask T-Mobile for the unlock code.
3, To debrand the phone ive found that Wotan is the easiest place to do so. However this will now unlock the phone, only debrand the phone.

R1ED001 makes you're K800i crash when you hit 9 pages of text in an SMS.
R1ED001 is the only newest firmware available for O2 by the looks. Not that many times you would write over a 9 page text but still.

I don't have the 2 second delay with the new R1GB001 firmware.

I have updated to R1GB001 from the 3 UK firmware R1CD001. The phone seems faster now and I like the MMS editor than the 3 version. Also to have the Music PLayer icon doing what it is supposed to do instead of going to 3 Music Store is good.
The other great thing is no more permanent data connection to 3 for instant access to 3G content, I don't mind the few seconds delay and hopefully I will see an increase in my battery life.
MSN Messenger will not download as expected due to missing certificates or something I guess, any way around this? I had to download all my music tracks again as the certificates must have been lost in the upgrade.
The only other issue I notice at present is i can't send anything from my PC to the Phone when I select Phone Mode when I hook it up under USB but will work in File Mode, any ideas?

Thanks darrengf for the great answer!
I've got a credit with Total Multiserver - how good / reliable / safe is debranding using them? Has anyone used them?
Looking forward to getting my phone tomorrow!
