@GOwin ... XP is quite good just make sure that your PC has the power. am using a PIII 886 MHz and it runs okay. also make sure that you have enough free disk space for swapping. XP is NT5 (W2K) based with the user friendliness of the 9x/ME. it is quite stable now, major problems would be the drivers of your devices. for a real computing power i suggest you use W2K instead.

@GOwin
my brother, who is somewhat of a computer xpert, is not too thrilled with xp. he still chooses win2k.
i play games a lot, (wizardry 8 anybody?) and still use win98 as my os. very stable. great platform for games.

Windows XP has not crashed, rebooted, or did weird stuff since I installed it on my Tecra. No games on this installation, though i have tons of development stuff.

@GOwin ... there is no real stable OS. even linux and unix. it just so happen that linux and unix have a lower level of hardware interface to the different devices of your computer as compared to windows. windows opted to be programmer friendly. providing apis (at the same time using the said apis) to other program. this "feature" made windows vulnearable to hacking and crashing. have you ever tried installing a new device to linux? that would be a nightmare sinced you have to recompile the kernel for that. as compared to windows that is plug and play.
the choice is yours which trade-off you chose. personally, i'll to mac os X (linux base).

@migueltan, smart's gprs has it's own share of ups and downs. i've been using it since december and before i got the MMS upgrade i already logged 1.3 gigabytes of total data transfer. since i got the MMS upgrade, my phone with smart gprs is rock solid. right now my data counter is showing more than 80 megabytes of data transfer (since the upgrade).
