Yes. This method works perfectly(infact even better than Airtel Live) using APN airtelwap.com. I am accessing internet using my Airtel Online subscription. Just dial and configure proxy ip & port in ur browser (use Firefox or Opera)and u r done.

I think either u have used a wrong connection string or *99***2# to dial. 99***2# doesn't work on majority of Nokia Phones(especially WAP 2.0)

Welcome to Esato!
Usally ppp error comes for authentication issues. But one thing, I was also a user of 6600 and I bought 6630 5 days ago. Before that, I had no problems to get authenticated. Only problem was whenever I was trying to access other sites, I was getting "Forbidden Error" in 6600 using airtelfun.com APN. So I was using airtelwap.com APN to connect and it was working perfectly(now also iam using that).
Now, first of all, are u able to browse Airtel Live Portal on your phone?
Anyways, I will try other methods on my 6600 and post you the results.

Another thing, go to Menu->Tools->Settings->Connection->GPRS and make sure that you have entered airtelfun.com in the access point field. If you are able to connect, I will tell you the next step. Don't worry, I have just checked and Iam getting full internet using Airtel Live settings on my 6600 too.

Have u tried the above method? It's very important.To continue, you must be able to establish a dialup connection. It's very easy to get full gprs in pc than in phone.
airtelwap.com APN is only for Airtel Online & Net On Phone subscribers. I am a subscriber of Airtel Online and I now feel that have wasted my Rs.150/- subscription charges.
