I think SE could have released this phone much sooner if they used the standard Android OS. Getting the timescape and mediascape apps working is what is going to take time, hence 2010 release.

Would SE users be happy with this phone if it has the standard 2.0 Android version like the Droid?

ok guys herer is the only way to prove what i'm saying for the screen in general (NOT ONLY THE COLORS)...

A TEST

HTC HERO SCREEN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSxGrjxuyEU

VS

XPERIA X10 SCREEN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYWEFG7iLVU

The camera used to record HERO is MUCH MUCH cheaper than the proffesional camera used by SE.Both running 1.6 Android, with xperia having a much better analysis and hero 65k colors..

Comments are yours....

The light conditions are definitively not the same.
The first one is a finished product the second one a prototype.
edit: and we don't know what screen settings have been chosen on both products.

That's my comment.

Which camera was used to record the Hero and which one was used to record the X10 and what were the lightning conditions on the both occasions and also back light of the screens?

Maybe you are right in the end but right now there is no way of telling.
Edit: The Hero is indeed a lot brighter than the X10 on those videos and the colors on the X10 video are a bit washed out

Sealover, give us a break now ok?
Developer people have their words said, it will use 262k colour display so end of story.

Regarding the question if people would be happy with the regular Android 2.0 UI, HELL yes!

@ron.jeremy: I totally agree. I have tried to explain some things it was a vain attempt. I won't reply here.
@sealover: http://techblog.gr/mobile/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-482/ Mr Vlachakis who is not stubborn has already changed the X10 specs on his blog.

sealover your posts are really annoying.
look at the hands on first picture and on the second - what do u see? on first picture the gamma of the hands is warm, while on the second it is cold. don't comapre pears with apples. Stop it finally if you have no idea of the matter.

btw: something is wrong with the colors here, the first photo is more blueish, the should rebuilt it with more colors:

sry for offtopic.

You don't knoW anyhing about photography and you are annoying too...

I could remove the post ... and let you speak for a phone that NOONE can think anything wrong about it... but let's try one more time to explain to you ....

No...no contrast...no warm up... warming up the X10 as you can see DOES NOT make the colors more vivid...
Maybe the light of the phone is low...maybe sth else but NOONE ...not me..not you... knows for sure...

I just make an assumption... like it or not its MY POINT OF VIEW... and it is all we have right now...!

SE has never disappointed me with screen quality... EVER! it has always been one of the best, if not THE best quality screens on the market. Even with lower spec'd screens, they are comparable or better than those with higher specs.

sealover, you've shared your point of view. WE ALL GOT IT. please refrain from posting more about your disappointment on the screen and colors until there is a release model available and demoed.

I for one am on the edge of my seat waiting for the X10. With the rumors that it will be compatible with android 2.0 (which to me seems like it means it will be upgradable), I'm happy. I don't really care if there is multi-touch because honestly, the pinching motions can get kind of annoying to do. At least this is from my experience with my itouch. I'd rather just double tap to zoom, which is what is implemented in android anyway.

I really like timescape and mediascape and im fully confident SE will optimize the speeds to satisfy even the most critical mobile user.

I suppose my only question would be battery life. There's no info yet on that and I'm curious how it will fair. SE's always had a great reputation for long battery life, which is one of the reasons I choose to stick by them. Hopefully the X10 can be used to its potential and not drain all the battery in say.. under an hour or two of watching videos, music and pictures.
