Hey Europeans, what are expectations in your countries? Which party will win in EU elections this year? This message was posted from a T610

@boto43

It's an interesting question because in the UK we have large sections of the community both very much for closer European integration and very much against, the majority are somewhere in the middle of these stances.
I would imagine that the right wing parties might make a good showing at the forthcoming elections. The Labour government here is widely seen as being dishonest by many people after the fiasco with the Iraq war and the Hutton Report. Added to this we have the European Constitution, which many people in Britain don't want, nor do many Britons want to join the Euro either. When these factors are taken into account I would predict that the right wing parties who are either cautious about Europe or completely against the idea of Britain being in the EU will do well.

I saw a headline in a paper today saying that the UK Independence Party (a party that's against closer European integration for the UK) is set to make large gains, at the expense of the Liberal Democrats (a centre-left party that wants us to be part of a european superstate).

Many in the UK want to be a part of Europe, but with the EU being a close trading community, with ease of movement of goods, people, and employment between the countries, but no closer. No Euro, no interest rates being set by Brussels, and individual countries still being in control of their affairs. And I tend to agree with that statement.

Whereas on one hand I'd like to see a united Europe that will challenge the US as a global superpower, not in it's current state where it ups sticks frequently to Strasbourg and huge expense, and the ridiculous farming subsides being paid, as two examples of how things are run at the moment. If the EU was run better, with the mountain of red tape and silly regulations demolished, then I think more people would be in favour of a more integrated europe.

What's the matter with EU constitution. Can any1 explain it to me. I've heard something like that some state doesn't want to accept it. Do we need the eu constitution at all. Is it not just a game of eu big state. This message was posted from a T610

EU constitution would be a good idea imho to secure certain rights and certain duties that apply to ALL european citizens... and to ensure that stuff is not legal in one country and ILlegal in another

That they are not in full agreement is hardly surprising europe is heavily divided over everything

A European constitution is not a good idea in my opinion, it would be the beginning of the end for the individual nation states of Europe. I am very much in favour of closer European ties, but not a European superstate, Europe could effectively oppose the U.S. in terms of global power if we managed to stop bickering amongst ourselves all the time and act with commonality of purpose.
A constitution for Europe is completely unnecessary, it would impose European regulations over the traditions and laws of democratic nations. People should be allowed to decide for themselves how they want their nation run.

don't tell me you feel the least bit empowered to decide how Tony Blair runs your country nowadays..... it's not like that, not in Britain and not in other places.

Scot @ I'm not sure what the EU goal is. To create European super state or to set up closer ties among the EU member countries. If first EU constitution will be accepted one day. This message was posted from a T610
