I have a Scorpio road bike. It's not expensive but is good quality.
It has alloy frame and 24 speed gears. I don't ride nearly as much as I should these days.
Previously I had a Bauer Razor RSX 14 speed road bike, bought in 97. At the time I was cycling to and from work (12.5 kms each way) and got quite fit.
I started entering 100km social races in my region and my best time was 2h 55m 51s. I like the challenge of travelling distance.

I too used to ride to work everyday, weather permitting. 35km round trip. Bought a 2001 Avanti Hustler which was dual suspension. 4 inches front and rear travel, 27 speed deore/lx level. Very smooth and effortless ride. Out riding one day i had a very large crash and cracked the frame in three places. Unfortunately this happened 1 week out of warranty. Gutted! Have now since moved up to bigger and better bike. Got a 1998 honda xr250r enduro motorbike. 10.5 inches front and back and lots of power. Much fun! This message was posted from a Z600

You can wear whatever you like! I have seen people riding wearing suits but thats for me. A pair of shorts and t-shirt does the job. For colder weather a jacket and my groundeffects pants from New Zealand are good. I would ride on road and cycle track, 50mins to work and 1hour 15mins home. Motorbike alot quicker thou.
