The point is, when you keep on about "high-end" and draw comparisons to HTC's equivalent "high-end" product in the Touch Pro, you're missing the point that pretty much all HTC's products are relatively "high-end" - they're all feature-packed, market leading, Windows Mobile handsets (soon to be joined by an Android range for good measure). They don't make anything else.

If the Touch Pro misfires in some way, then not to worry, they've already got the popular Diamond out there already making most of the Pro's R&D pay anyway, along with a bunch of other good handsets, together with an all new Android phone to create some buzz later in the year. More to the point, you can bet the networks will have all bought and branded a few million Touch Pro's in advance anyway.

You have to remember, the Touch Pro is nothing new for HTC - it's simply the natural successor to the Tytn II, which sold by the bucketload through networks as the T-Mobile Vario 3, O2 XDA Stellar, Vodafone V1615, Orange Tytn II, AT&T Tilt, the list goes on. The Touch Pro will join the same ranks as the Vario 4 etc etc, plus or minus a few networks due to it's band differences. HTC are tried and trusted by the networks and anyone else looking to rebrand a good WM phone to sell to business, so they've no worries there.

The "X1", by comparison, is all about the marketing. In reality, all SE are selling in the X1 is a slight variation on the Touch Pro, which is itself only a small step forward in terms of the overall Windows Mobile market. What they're hoping is that general consumers can be persuaded - like you have been - that the X1 is more superduper "premium" and special than the near-identical competition, on the strength of the SE name and all that shiny chrome. If they pull it off, then fair play to them, but the more time goes on and the smartphone market moves along with it, the more of a struggle they're bound to have.

Lets be realistic. If its launching by this December, this product is D.O.A. It won't be hype anymore but its just another product. Thats all. HTC pretty much will be on track with their touch pro but what worries me is the SE. HTC has their own band of loyal followers and I'm sure HTC owners would hardly consider buying X1. No point for HTC to worry about X1. In fact, the X1 may even make inroads for HTC once people are familiarize with Windows Mobile. We can say all the functions, these and that but until most of us are given the options to use any of the options we would never know how much we could use it. Right now I can't even make myself buy HTC but SE X1 seems cool, if you know what I mean.

Doesn't seem too reliable. Facts aren't correct and no source is given.

It better not be accurate! Does SE have any freaking idea that it is bad business to actually announcing it on Feb and releasing it on November?

When is the confirmed release date for the Touch Pro in the U.S.?...abroad? I think comparison of actual release dates of these devices is in order.

Also, are there any confirmed release dates for the "better/newer" upcoming Snapdragon/NVidia/U500 based phones (not MIDs)?

@WhyBe

It looks like the Touch Pro could be from the 4th August going by Expansys @£524.95 at this link

http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=169424

but I'm not really looking for one so don't know for sure.

The thing is most companies don't announce products so early before shipping like SE did with the X1 they have much shorter lead times from announcement to being available as that maintains the users interest.

Look how excited most where when the X1 was announced and now look how bored so many are and you will understand why. To much has happened between announcement and expected launch to keep the X1 fresh and exciting. Look at how quickly the Diamond launched after being announced and even the Touch Pro was announced after the Diamond and way after the X1 but will arrive first.

There really is very little point announcing a class leading product but not releasing it until 9 months plus later as by then it just isn't any longer class leading or interesting.

I really have no idea why or how SE are having so much trouble with the X1 especially from what BengleBoy reports. But they really need to make sure it is stable and get it out as fast as they can to stand any chance of it being a success.

Marc
