Looking forward to it.
Btw, you mentioned in weibo that there will be a flagship with LCD + SDM855 for Japan.
When is it coming? this summer?

Not always 4k. Phew that was close.

The whole 4K all the time story was told by Sony's own support ...

I don't think they meant the rendering. The panel is obviously always 4k no matter what it is displaying. And forum mods are not always accurate, so I kept my suspicion even though they confirmed always 4k.

Lets suppose Bionz X gives what they promise.
Owners of XZ2/XZ3 will ask for it with android 10.
I doubt they will provide, since they have better hardware they could easily cush 1.
Something they won't allow, of course.

What exactly Bionz X promise though? Aside from RAW nr I don't remember hearing any tangible improvement. Oh and af tracking but it's not too relevant to image quality.

Of course they won't give anything new to the XZ phones no matter how much the owners ask for it. I'm not sure about the better hardware part either. XZ2P's main cam with 7p lens and f1.8 would get better maybe but I have doubts about f2 ones. Besides they don't have OIS which many new algorithms might need.

Zack is talking about surprises. Do you guys think they'll deliver a night mode like Pixel's? I don't think so.

BTW LG's new review's up on Gsmarena. Main cam is similar to the 1. Results look good imo.

There's still no SD855 phone other than S10 on the market right? LG's out it seems. Sigh.

Diameter of aperture is according to many things.
Focal length, sensor size etc ... Not just f value.
The periscope sensor of P30 Pro has lenses with aperture diameter bigger than iphone tele, despite being f3.4 against f2.4.
I read that on comment session of photography website.

Smaller sensors need bigger aperture to provide same exposition levels.
Even with f1.5 , devices like S10 and G8 will never grab more light than larger sensor with 1.7 or 2.0 if settings are same.

I dont remember if it was done by Android Authority, but someone did Pixel x Pixel 2 x Pixel 3.
In few shots Pixel 1 was better. Older sensor, older ISP and no OIS.

If XA2+ does better than 10+ because of hardware advantage , XZ3 with BX could do better than 1.
Sensor was reduced by 20%. It is a lot.

G8 pics have too much NR. Check again the walls of the Vitosha Hall ( first pic) , they are too soft.
Night shots are iso400 but unless you have great edition skills I doubt they can be saved.

Dual photo diode, Eye AF (10fps AE/AF).

Less 200% of noise compared to XZ3.
According to them.

Well, dual pixel, eye af, tracking all good but do not directly affect image quality. Xz series had other problems like weak(or none) multi-frame processing, soft corners/distortion due to wide lens (software correction decreased quality). High shutter speeds and iso to compensate the lack of ois. I'm not sure about the maths of f numbers but still each have its advantages. OIS, large f, large pixel, multi-frame, less data to process for 1's camera; large sensor, more pixels + more data but heavier to process etc for xz.
If xz3 had ois and raw nr then yes it would have beaten the 1 but I think advantages and disadvantages might cancel each other in 1's favor when you can't add those hw improvements. In 2P's case it has better arrangement for low light. But you also said Huawei opt for large sensor so it doesn't need ois but p30 now also has ois right? That must mean it's better to have it.
