Hi all. Just thought I'd post my ideas for a followup "P980" or whatever. I, as many others, have been using my P900 wo flip sinse I bought it and never rely feelt I needed the flip. With the addition of the ThinkOouside BT Keyboard, a thumbboard lika on the P910 or 990 is reduntent aswell. What I would want is a P990 without flip, without keyboard and, a slightly larger screen (lengthwise) and somewhat smaller dimentions, specialy the thickness. All outher specs are superb and should stay as is. Something that is doable??

I think most people are too hooked on the 5 way joystick. Mind you I've never got to seriously use the P910/900 only had a P910 for a week. I feel if the OS is refined enough, there shouldnt be a need for 5 way scroll wheel; didnt the P800 not have it too? It did fairly well. Some people still use the P800 without the need for 5way scroll wheel.
Documents to go = definately a must & most likely gauranteed, but I prefer something that is more smooth and more efficient & setup more cleanly.
Opera 8 = yes but if its anything like that on Series60; get rid of it. typing text for reply's on forums is insane. I press the space and for some reason the last word I finished typing (ie "typing" looks like "typin g") has a gap between the last two letters.
Stowaway keyboard = still too large for my liking. Their thin enough but from bottom to top of keyboard rows could be shorter, and so to can the width without effecting efficient typing speed.
IM+ = I'd rather a free service thank you. On series60 it costs per send/receive.
Sloved Dictionaries = I've never fully appreciated this app, but I'd like to type in a phrase and the appropriate translations (whether formal or street prose) comes out; meaning what I intended. (ie I want to say where can I take a piss - NOT to be translated - where can I piss on you)
cheers

It's worse than that. Only signed programs can be run and signing costs hundreds of dollars for the developer. End of freeware and free upgrades.
Being a possible future developer for the p990 i was interested in that and looked into it. The developer guidelines for the p990 say that unsigned programs may still be installed on the phone, but they won't have access to certain apis (i assume these are the communication/network apis mainly, that would make sense if they wanted to prevent viruses)

Speaking about new phone's features, we seem to miss the real thing:
All of software we run on our P800/900/910
WILL NOT RUN on P990!
This is what SS (Symbian Signed program) is for.
You're kidding right? This makes no sense and this will prevent me from buying the P990 if this is true, since I have paid for alot of software for the Px00

If this is the case affecting those owners of the previous P series devices that have invested in apps then it bites.
However, for those of you affected; I would strongly suggest 1> starting a thread for those affected that would do the following.
2> sending each other emails requesting a low fee or free upgrade - depending on how recent the purchase date is of current apps - for new versions of the same app if its made ready & compatible for the SE P990i.
3> sending these emails - for the same requested app of course - to the company/programer that sells the current app requesting this; and if not then their app would be boycotted or just simply not purchased from them. Remember word of mouth and sight of a working app to others on a working device would sell more than they would advertise.
Lastly I think this could work because developers must know that their revenues would be severaly affected by those not planning on buying because of the tremendous costs of personalizing their P990i with additional apps.
just a thought, post if valid or not.

I think it'd just be alot easier to just tell SE and UIQ to make 3.0 backwards compatible than contacting all those developers!

Hi there!
Im typing from Madrid, and I have read a lot on this forum about the P990. Quite impressive! Lots of stuff on this furm and lots of people who know lots of stuff too!!
Im a P900 user for over a year and a half. Ready to make the jump to something nicer!
I`ve read a lot about it and have started to search around the web to buy it. I have found a couple of leads, who offer the phone at decent prices, some of them seem more reliable than others, but most of them seemed pretty serious. Questions started to pop up: If the phone is supposed to be released early next year, how can these people have them already for sale? they are not "stores", they are regular people who claim to have these phones (actual pictures taken and sent to me)...are these BETA versions of the phone? All offer 1 year international guarantee, all accesories, boxed and everything...But Im not sure. Is it possible that this phone couldīve been released already in United Kingdom thorough VODAFONE or something?
Anyways, guess I was just looking for some advice here...didnt mean to interrupt!
Thanx a bunch in advance!
Alex
