Actually.. seems the alarm depends on the localisation and the language you choose. I think the bug shows up in some cdas in a combination with specific language- selections...

believe me, the bug is there. Or at least something is...

When I get a new phone, I usually search for software, and put loads of stuff in. Ringtones, themes, games, to try them on, and see what's usefull for me. After that, I usually flash, and do a clean install with the stuff I have chosen. With the P1i everything went fine, I flashed it with the previous fw (W1) and I was very satisfied. Nothing wrong with it, other than usual stuff.

The new FW came out (7dec2007), and the known bugs were there. OK, no biggie, I can live with the "4" bug, although it is no pleasant, since I use the camera a lot. I choose USA English. What the hell is diference between USA and UK English, other than one say "color" and the others colour", and one swear " You bloody bastard" and the other "Moth@# F%^king son of a biatch). I don't give much care, and I thing choose the USA for the number format or something.

I then foolishly decided to format the phone. The themes were gone, the sounds were gone, default brightness is now 90% WTF? I don't remember doing anything different, other than selecting UK, just for the metric system. The first morning I woke up, thinking, "uhm, I must have set the alarm volume too low" I tuned up, and went to work. This morning, I wake up and think "damn, the "alarm" bug is back!@#). I set the alarm at 8:07 (it was 8:06) and sat there and watched the phone sit in silence when the clock turned 8:07. I was pissed. The working days, and week start are double checked. Also, since the phone deleted all sounds, I have put back the "feel" ring tone (I like it, it's pleasant to wake up with), but, even after selectin it in the alarm setting, the phone still shows "default" and not "feel". (I think this is where the bug is)...

So, all I can say for someone to recreate the bug is: Format the phone, choose UK English (the bloody bastard one), put and choose the "feel" ring tone, watch how the phone ignores it, make sure it's Sunday, and go to sleep. Don't forget to install themes, and other stuff. However, the format sadly doesn't delete that horrible golf game.

cheers...

I have uk english and have just tried several times to get this bug to appear, including using that awful 'feel' track (no accounting for taste I suppose)

- the only thing I found was that if you use an mp3 that's too long it will not play all of it, and only play it once.

I will add though that I've never had the phone set to any other localisation, so if you truly think this has something to do with it, why not flash the phone again then load UK on first boot. This would surely eliminate any time format confusion.

I guess (gosh -how American) what I'm saying is that it might not be a problem with the clock software, but with an incomplete change in the bootstrap files that deal with localisation/number formats etc.

This could explain the rarety of the problem as I doubt that many of us have changed the language settings on our phones since we got them.

Good thought/Bad thuoght - wha'd'y'all reckon mes amis?

See you at the 19th hole.....

Has anyone tried the latest blackberry connect (4.82) with the latest firmware (R9K009/R6G04)? The SE download page lists it as supporting organizer versions R6E30, R6F41, and R&G05 which i would assume means R6G04. I am currently using the R9J005/R6F41 with bbc 4.79 and this has been working quite well. I would like to update to the latest firmware, but I want to be sure that black berry connect is working.

I had to jump through quite a few hoops to first figure out that bbc 4.79 wasn't compatible with R6G04 (this combination did work for a very short period which was very confusing) and then flash my CDA until I found a region that would still update to R6F41 instead of R6G04 with SEUS. I'd rather not repeat those steps!

lol. Thanks, both of you. I think that sounds very right, as we say.. That if you have a cda from a country with default start of the week on sunday - then when you install any language- pack on boot, it sets the table as it should be. But if you do a factory reset, it reverts back to the original cda, even if you keep the language file. And then there's a conflict...?

Sounds almost too convenient.. But on the other hand - it does sound convenient. Do you think that could be it?

Yeah, it's the same every time. They release a new version a week or two after the firmware- release. Since the builds won't work with the previous firmware, for some reason.

(Probably a genuine SE solution involved, with some extremely clever lack of abstraction on the code for the message- api, or something like that..)

in reply to my own rant.

The bug is sometimes in the user, not in the device.

I have formated the phone again, selected UK English, and set the phone's date and time correctly. Now, I stress this, since I though I set the time right the previous time I formated, I am NOT sure that I set the date. The phone works flawlessly now, alarm is ringing, the "feel" tune (and I suspect any other) is playing fine, and the sun is shining again... I still hate the golf game. Not exactly hate it, since it is quite well done, but more like I don't know when to play it, I have short commuting time to work.

So, my apologies to the SE programmers, and ya'll, for the rant, but it all piled up, my previous BAD experience with Nokia smart phones and all...

still don't understand why default brightness is 90% after format, and why the format deletes default ring tones and themes...

cheers...
