Who knows, maybe those 5,2 inch OLED screens will end up in 2nd half 2014 flagship model along with fast wireless charging
.
Yeah, if sony announce Z1 successor at CES or MWC, and let's be honest, they will - they can't skip two MAJOR tech/mobile shows without announcement of highend device, then the OLED display might be ready for IFA device, if not then CES 2015...

Unless they manage to do what Samsung has done till now with their SoC's - announce mass production from april and in may release device using this particular SoC. Possible, but would require from Sony very tight scheduling and priority from JDI.
This would mean that as Samsung is using only their in-house screens, Sony would use only JDI screens so no screen lottery. Win-win situation for all

Please tell me by that you mean one phablet and one normal sized flagship?

Anyway timing will remain the same? as Z and Z1?

Yeah, anyway, natural evolution in the Z line displays should be: WRBG 5 inch FHD LCD>WRBG 5.2 FHD OLED> that 5.4 inch WQHD with 5** ppi LCD (with thin bezels to preserve smaller dimensions). but i doubt sony will jump to OLED and then back to LCD, maybe that 5.4 inch will have OLED version later, or they will just stick to 5.2 inch display for that line.

Using 5.2" screen even IPS when all other are going to use it will only be catching up, but releasing OLED 5.2" screen where the rest will be stuck with IPS or SAMOLED(Samsung) will be aiming for no. 1 so IMO 'natural evolution' as you're calling it is not enough but unfortunately possible.

When i look at OLED from samsung i think it's better to choose IPS as of now - that 5 inch WRBG LCD from JDI is IPS if i'm not wrong, and that's a good thing IMO. in my eyes OLED of samsung miss natural color tones and brightness and they got that greenish tint. so jumping to a new thing fast is not necessarily a good thing. IMO the G2, HTC one and Iphone 5s got the best displays on the market overall, all of them are IPS. also the new nokia lumia 1520 phablet looks great and it's also IPS. sony needs to listen better to reviewers and consumers that demand better viewing angles. the best answer for that is higher quality IPS screen, not current OLED.

You're mixing OLED (organic light emitting diode) with SAMOLED (super active matrix organic light emitting diode) from Samsung, those are different technologies. For comparison PS Vita is using OLED screen and it's pure joy to look at without strange tints and with very accurate calibration. I'm not saying that IPS is bad, on the contrary I think that it's very good but if there's something better right around the corner why not use it?

@Wishmaster89
Yes, by saying OLED i ment AMOLED or SAMOLED but it's still OLED, just inferior one.
i think that sony doesn't choose OLED for now because they are not satisfied with it's performance for what smartphones demand. the PS Vita is not a smartphone so let's put it aside, and they are not making it with OLED display anymore anyway, but IPS. there are probably some issues with current OLED that prevent sony from implementing it on SMARTPHONES. cost issues? takes too much battery life? who knows? they are probably also looking at samsung OLED and are not satisfied by what they bring, but on the other hand, they don't do their best in choosing a higher quality display (mostly in terms of viewing angles) like LG, HTC, APPLE and NOKIA does, for some reason.
