*Sigh* That is so annoying!
Happened to me too when i got my P900, locked to Telia SE
Waited three anxious days before they called and said they had an unlocked one in a store 40 km from my home. About 1 hour later i was back home with my new phone
I am getting my V3 unlocked too, just waiting for a friend of mine to go to Gothenburg and deliver it personally for an unlock while-U-wait. Donīt feel like mailing my precious..
I have worked for Posten SE, driving trucks U see..

this one wasn't locked and the branding is fairly minimal, just a startup and shutdown screen, the web icon says O2, a couple of images that can't be deleted and 4 data accounts that can't be deleted although new ones can be added. its not exchangemaster fault as they got the replacement from their supplier but they can easily flash the generic firmware so I took them up on the offer. There is no branding on the case so I'll be happy again when that is done.
I rarely use the word hate but I really do hate branded phones!

I try to avoid the 'h'-word too.. way too mis-used nowadays. Even had to re-type my first sentence from "*Sigh, donīt you just hate when that happens" to:
"*Sigh* That is so annoying!"
Oh, and i am not looking for a scapegoat, itīs just annoying when you donīt get what you should in the first place, i am sure nobody sent you an O2-one on purpose
Btw, have you gotten into some more "serious" customisation? Like removing everything you donīt want and changing skins and stuff?
I had a go and removed all ringers i didnīt want and the dreadful videoclip. Too bad that modding Motos vs SE is a bit like Unix vs. Windows

I haven't had a go yet, there's just never enough time! but its on my list to do someday soon and I've seen all the motorola hackers bible etc and the stuff you have posted so I'm keen to have a play some time and I am not at all scared of doing it as it does seem to easy and straightforward

Itīs not rocket science, but compared to theme creating for SE-phones it is a bit messy.. installing apps, making them "talk" to the phone, and above all: RTFM before hacking away. I would also like to stress: Make a backup of everything before making any changes, you might need it later *and donīt ask me how I know*

well I am happy to say that although I sent that o2 replacement one back to be flashed with generic firmware, they have simply given me a brand new unbranded v3 so this little story ends and I a happy chappy again
now to start playing with some of this hex editing!

not a bad idea but unfortunately they gave me a replacement receipt the phone showing the old and new IMEI so no luck there
looks like I got a slightly newer firmware in there too, not that I can see much change
