I don't think under screen is the only place.you can put your finger anywhere.it's not a sensor but a transmiter.i maybe wrong though.but yeah it needs some additional euipment as you said.
The ultrasonic waves can also pass through metal, plastic, glass and whatever the user may have on their hands, meaning that developers have some additional flexibility when implementing Qualcomm’s technology.
Also if we go back to leaked road map 820 is octacore

if anyone's interested in Zeroth here is some info

I hope SD820 also means Qualcomm's ultrasonic finger scanner under the display, not some weird scanner on the side. I think it's the only reasonable position since that's where you control almost everything in your device.

Qualcomm fingerprint solution should be superior because it is more intuitive and user friendly also more then apple touch id. i'm sure they will use it in case the next flags feature s820 but if they do plan to use the power button as fingerprint as well then i'm sure it will be reliable. they must have learned from samsung, etc. failed attempts.

just sampling, right? because I'm kinda scared if Sony is one of the first to launch products with S820.. I just want them to launch it in like January or February so Z3 and Z3+ users like me can't feel bad hahaha... well actually, I want them to launch it in January or February because they have more time to test their products so they'll be less bug and problems, and no big problems, especially hardware problems
z Ultra was the first device to have s800 IRC, and it worked better than all the s800 devices with minimal throttling.

I'm not concerned about reliability but placement itself. I don't think that fingerprint scanner in the power button is a good idea.

Yeah where's the evidence ? I don't care about performance that much. If it's not slower than my z1 then it's acceptable for me.
I found some benchmark results after the update:

Still don't think that is Z5 Compact... because that is E56xx, not E58xx

It's some Indian model. PowerVR G6200 GPU is pretty slow, especially combined with FHD display. Z3 Compact is much faster than this. Combine that with 16GB of internal storage - it's definitely not Z5 Compact.
But! Camera resolution and enabled HDR suggest IMX230 sensor!
