amedal,
If those people are really selling the P990 (which I doubt), they are definately selling prototype machines, so if you buy these you are looking for trouble !!
Just one example: The UIQ (the interface) that the P990 uses is not finished yet!! It will only be finished by Mach next year! (*if* there are no delays)

It's worse than that. Only signed programs can be run and signing costs hundreds of dollars for the developer. End of freeware and free upgrades.
Being a possible future developer for the p990 i was interested in that and looked into it. The developer guidelines for the p990 say that unsigned programs may still be installed on the phone, but they won't have access to certain apis (i assume these are the communication/network apis mainly, that would make sense if they wanted to prevent viruses)
Signing is a mandatory thing in Symbian OS v9.x. That means that ALL applications have to be signed to be able to install those to the device. That doesn't mean that applications have to be certified though, for example through Symbian Signed. Signing can be done by anyone using selfcreated certificate and key pair. Symbian Signed certification is only needed if the application uses certain system resources.
There's also a model for freeware and it's definitely not dead. Freeware development is still possbile for Symbian OS v9.x.
Quote from Symbian:
Free Symbian Signed route to market for freeware and open source – Symbian and Cellmania, a leading software vendor – in conjunction with Forum Nokia, Sony Ericsson and UIQ Technology AB – are enabling freeware applications to undergo the Symbian Signed process completely free of charge. Symbian has driven this important development of Symbian Signed in recognition of the vital, innovative role that freeware and other forms of collaborative software development play within the Symbian ecosystem. Freeware applications that successfully complete the standard Symbian Signed testing process will install on Symbian OS phones unimpeded by security warnings to the user that the application is unsigned, ensuring the user’s confidence in the integrity of the application.

Alex, its a fraud. This happens every time SE or Nokia announce a new phone. Please wait and buy 990 from a proper shop or reliable online retailer. Never trust ebay sellers who are selling expensive Smartphones for half the price.

is there to be a p990a or do we have to resort to a weaker signal with the 1900hz on the p990i. i am currently with t-mobile and when i purchased my p900 i usually got 1 to 2 bars and now i get 4 to full signal with my p910a. i hope that SE considers the north american market.
