ok, looking online at the K800 it seems the central button and the 4 directional button are all on part, whereas on the N95 the central button is separate from the for directional button surrounding it

I dont have my cam with me where I am now but I'll trying and get a close up pic later

does it "fit" your fingers at usage? sometimes the brands forget, that the fones are used by adults, not 8 years old children

no, actually its a bit jerky scrolling through the images and although they are all the same resolution, some appear immediately while with others you see the photo icon first for 1/2 second and then the image

This is because the thumbnail files are being generated for newly added image. Fyi, the "real" image file is never displayed by gallery (unless you zoom in). It makes smaller images (of various sizes) of the real image file and store them in subfolders. Gallery display these files instead. So the next time the gallery seems slow the reason is not due to displaying large image (but due to background process creating these thumbnails)

As time goes by, these thumbnail folders get cluttered. I have not investigate for N95, but for previous version, these thumbnails are not deleted even you after you deleted the actual image.

So sometimes it is good idea to go and delete this thumbnail folders to get rid of these files. These files do take up a lot of disk space. Remember that with a 2Gb memory card formated with FAT, the smallest disk space used per file is 32K (even if the file data size is 50bytes).

thanks, I am familar with thumbnails and my immediate assumption was that this is the case. however it seems that on the N95 at least these thumbnails are not stored as once the gallery is closed, or the phone restarted, it takes the same amount of time to get images displayed first time as it did the first time, last time, if you know what I mean. its only while the gallery is still open that subsequent returns to the app cause the images to be shown quickly

from my text above, it would appear this is not how is works on N95 as it seemeingly takes quite some time to generate the thumbnails after a phone restart or if I purposely exit the gallery application

now thats crap, if u have to wait every time to see your pix... especially if u have a lot of... as i know nokia, it will be managed with the next fw version, should be, cos many go for that fone cos of the cam, so the gallery is an important apart.

so, again, everone waits for the "next firmware". honestly... do we not have anything better to do?

to be honest, I am only commenting on what I see but make no comment that it affects my life in any way. I'm happy to wait an extra second or two for the gallery to appear, I could spend 100x that on here complaining about it but its just not worth it.

obviously if a subsequent firmware changes this I'll be happy, but I really must say I'm not that bothered

its not about the fw, iam also not a new-fw-freak, my observation was focued more on the cam-gallery connection in those eyes, who take it maybe as a main cam instead of a digi cam

I doubt very much that many buy a mobile phone with a built in camera and expect it to be the equal of a stand alone camera. they migt see the 5MP specs etc and think "yeah, that will take good pics" but they surely would't expect it to perform like a dedicated device.

I think most people these days know that convergence comes with some limitations. certainly none of my non-techo friends who always ask me for advice expect the same from a phone than they do from a camera/mp3 player etc, though I do tell them it can come quite close and will only get better, and thats something I believe strongly
