> P990i R6D23 firmware available on SEUS
Bookmark topic
Bought the phone in April and updated firmware sucessfully then. It got to 92%, failed. Tried again, worked just fine. PC Suite detected my phone on XP and Vista. Good times.
Now just tried updating to R6D23 several times. Each time it got to exactly 92%. Tried closing SEUS, reloading SEUS, reloading PC Suite, restarting computer, removing anything that could remotely conflict with the USB port, using different USB port, praying. Stopped after eight (8) attempts and realizing that PC Suite was no longer detecting the phone. It doesn't like to have only 92% of an update (reboots every 5 seconds).
Spoke with a courteous SE customer service rep who agreed I exhausted most, if not all, resources at my disposal. Phone's on it's way to Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. With a little luck it will be returned in stable condition with the latest firmware. I think the P990 is an amazing device--when it's working. A friend had a '90 Chevy Berretta GT like that...

@Dualist
Thanks for sharing that with me. Why can't SE just devise a SEUS that just does what it's supposed to do, no weird things popping out, no phones dying out on their owners. Well my phone has been behaving as it should up to this point. Most memory I had at startup is 16.9mb and I noticed this is more than anyone else's (those posted here anyways) so far. Contrary to what others feel, I 'feel' that the memory management is a wee bit better, after almost a day playing around with opera, opera mini and and a few other built-in apps I still had 12.9mb as opposed to before when it would permanently stay around 11mb within the first day. But this is NOT EVEN CLOSE to what it should be, ARE YOU LISTENING SE? I think those who 'feel' that startup is faster has some basis, but not necessarily the case. They only feel it's faster because the time between boot time and 'phone on' has been reduced significantly to make it 'seem' faster but some of that time has been dumped in between password entry and practical use therefore almost cancelling out the speed. At least this is my experience

I no longer get a sms advertisment. Have to go into messages and check manually. Did not happen with previous versions.

@maruf06, assuming your internet connection is stable, delete everything in C:\\Program Files\\Sony Ericsson\\Update Service\\db\\13740270\\blob_fs and run SEUS again. It may be a good idea to temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus programs too, just in case

If you know anyone that has updated, you can copy the contents of that folder from their PC to yours, or use their PC to do the update.
It's hard to tell, normally uninstall, delete all registry entries and the related files under Documents and Settings and reinstall should work. The size of the folder is 79.3 MB, check that too.

I also do confirm the bug with big text files cannot be launched, and close the text (or notebook) application.
It seems also that if you have several (or at least more than 1) application opened, at the moment you tried to open a long text file, p990 closes down those other application in order to get memory out of it. I really do not know why, but p990 should be able to open them and deal with them.
I have compare it with p910 (my old and loyal telecom warrior), and it opened text files bigger than 400 Kb (which this size my p990 does not like, and refuses to open).
Anyway, please SE-guys (if some of them read this lines) please do not play around with the .mmp, parameter lists (or whatever you call them), and fix them so we finally can use this simple application.
I know Symbian will be bought by Microsoft, and probably the Symbian (at least for SE) life will be over in a time soon (maybe not), but at least do try fix this (does not matter if you do not give any other new feature), and make p990 the promise it was.
Cya!.

@txmrolf
Good observation there, perhaps you wanna post this in the R6 bugs thread as well, make it easier for SE people to spot it
