But whatever there is I do not believe there can be just nothing, dead, black, gone. I never think there can be just nothing.

Of course, life will still go on, but for us it won't, 'something' is created by our brains, so when we die there will be nothing for us because our brain shuts down and no information is sent to the brain, there will still be a world for everyone else. There's only one chance at life and a lot of people believe in an afterlife because of that.

Why are there 7 billion of us if we each lasted forever? We wouldn't have any purpose in the afterlife so what would be the point on it existing?

Maybe life is that way. That when we die our soul or spirit goes on and we wake up somewhere else

You can't experience anything without your brain that's how it works, if people realized that they would realize how time is important and that life is a gift, instead of thinking that there is an existence after death.
Its common sense
If there is an afterlife, is it just humans? why not pigs or rats?
