This is the fourth cut to full year Xperia shipment forecasts during the year.

http://www.xperiablog.net/201[....]rtphones-sold-in-last-quarter/

So basically after each quarter this year they lowered their full year forecast, now to 15 million units. At least they are making profit, which is anyway their key focus at the moment.

Yeah but the sad thing is that they are making those profits by milking their fanbase. The value price ratio for sony devices has never been this bad. If they keep this up they will only keep shrinking

Through thick and thin . No seriously, you’re right and it’s a bit of shame. Hopefully we'll all get rewarded again for our endurance and passion at some point.

5 million Xperia for q4.Given how bad last year portfolio was,I m surprised by the results. The only worthy device released in 2016 was Xperia XZ. X Performance and X compact were huge disappointments. As for Xperia X it's only worthy now at 300euros,and not at 600 which was the initial launch price.Lets hope 2017 will be a better year.

Given how many new android manufacturers have appeared in the last few years, it is not surprising to see this.
What I really want to know is how much the XZ has sold over the last quarter because if majority of that is the XZ, then that is not bad at all

I'm sorry,I love Sony to death and have been a fan of Sony Ericsson since 2001,but 2016 wasn't a good year for Sony Mobile.Xperia XZ is probably the only worthy device released in 2016 and even that could have been so much better in terms of battery,RAM and screen resolution.

The screen resolution is not a problem at all to sub 5.5 or even 6 inch display. The Xperia XZ's display is definitely one the better I have used.
RAM is something I wish they could have increased, because 4GB would make a difference.
I just feel Sony are cutting corners too often. The finger print scanner is a joke. the slight moist on your finger make it impossible to unlock your phone without your pin code. The design which most users here seem to like is a miss for me.

XXZ fingerprint scanner unlocks with my wet finger after washing my hand without drying it...

Just curious, when is someone gonna sticky this thread to the top of the page? Kinda silly to have previous years rumor threads up there and this one further down.

New Sony smartphone sensor with built in DRAM looks promising:

https://www.slashgear.com/son[....]sor-has-its-own-dram-06474100/

It can capture an image in 1/120th of a second that would previously have required 1/30th of a second. And it can support up to 1000 FPS at 1920x1080 resolution!

Source direct from sony

here is a video of the slow motion at full hd, 960fps ->15 fps playback

Wonder when this would start production, hopefully in time for the next flagship.

I already mentioned this long time ago, I think mod's are a little bit busy... do we need more admins here ?

That's amazing !!, at first I thought it is not for smartphone but then wow !!

I really hope Sony will have this sensor in the very near future... 1gbit means almost 120MB of DRAM...

At this speed, the internal memory speed will play a crucial part of the game as it must cope with the write speed in order to save the video, I mean a single second of 1000fps video translate into 40 seconds of 25fps video, If the video was a regular 30mbps video, then a 40 seconds in 1 seconds will require a minimum of 150MB/s write speed, that's only if the SoC is actually capable of encoding such stream on the fly !!

That sensor is awesome but I don't think it will do stuff like 4k @ 60 fps since the S835 doesn't support that.

What chances do we think this new sensor will end up in the new Premium?

It's clearly a flagship sensor so I'm hoping it turns up in an Xperia device very soon.

i also thought it's not for smartphones but it's for them actually.

http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/201702/17-013E/index.html

"Because high-speed shooting data is stored on the DRAM and output at a normal speed, a conventional ISP can be used."

and looks like even if isp doesnt support it it doesnt matter, at least for slow motion...

fhd @ 1000 fps and even 4k@240 fps slow motion can be possible...
