Does seem a long time to wait. Hopefully it'll be before then.

Just flashed my phone to the new firmware using NewFlasher so my modem policy files don't get overwritten. Success!
Looking forward to Android 17 though and hope it's not a long wait.

I’d like to flash the XQ-GE54 version onto my XQ-GE74 WITHOUT wiping the data. I did this years ago with the Xperia 1 IV and it went fine. There are some files in the firmware folder that need to be deleted, but I’m worried about getting stuck in a bootloop.

Good luck! Any particular reason you want to switch to a different region ?
I'm not sure you can switch to a different image without wiping data but if you said you've done it before then go for it! I'm sure there are guides on XDA to help you if you forget which files to delete.

I'm tired of waiting for the A17 update, hahaha.

ha. i don't mind the wait. there's nothing in A17 that i desperately need and from what I've read, it removes some sony specific features. it's more and more like a pixel experience, which is kind of sad. I wonder if I will need to re-enable the power button fingerprint scanner thing again.

Having both the Xperia 1 VII and the Xperia 1 VIII, I can't really say I prefer one unlocking method over the other. Plus, I use a case as well as an Adore June sleeve, so there's no risk of me unlocking the phone accidentally.

We skipped the August Google patch update and went straight to A17. Note that after installing A17, the Google Play system version is still from July.
