@ronty

1. WM does support the 3D acceleration but its not built into the OS as it is in OSX and Android. IT takes for granted that all 3D acceleration is software. So the first chance it gets it reverts to software based.

2. The MSM7200 3D acceleration is not as good as that on the iPhone or the N95 as shown in the benchmarks. It does'nt support OpenGL 1.1. In the Android demo when they mention that its the MSM7200 all we have to do is take the guys word for it. We dont know if its an updated MSM7200 or not, or even if it really is an MSM7200. Also the quake game maybe optimized for the platform.

3. 3D drivers have been implemented in most models coming out with MSM7200. The 2D drivers have'nt. To see an increase in usability what we need is the 2D display rendering drivers which for some reason are not being implemented.

@WhyBe

There is'nt a WM phone on the market that can compete with the iPhone or some of the Nokia n-series for multimedia. WM as we know it is still in the same form it was in WM5. It was never meant to be a multimedia friendly platform. Although now the manufacturers have tweaked it quite a bit to make it multimedia capable to an extent.

The iPhone hardware is amazing, its using a better processor, an amazing screen with capacitive technlology, using sensors for quite a bit of stuff. A Multi touch screen.....if thats not hardware then what is?

What is multimedia then (other than playing music, videos, and pics)? What makes one phone better at multimedia than the other (other than obvious things such as memory capacity, screen size/resolution, etc.)?

Yes, the hardware has it's plusses, of course. Also, it has minuses which are well documented on the net: some of which are low-res screen, 2MP camera, no video recording, no MMS, finger only without special stylus, non-replacable battery, no keyboard, non-expandable memory. As great a feature as multi-touch is, I love being able to run a phone totally with one hand (or thumb). It's more practical to me. Don't want to turn this into iPhone bashing, but, I think it's main strengths are in its GUI and user experience (typical of all Apple products).

1. Like I mentioned several pages ago that the video playback capacity of the processor is not as versatile as the OMAP or PowerVR solutions, wheahter you want to accept this or not is immaterial, you will realize that once you buy your X1.

2. Out of the box...WM(take note I said WM is not multimedia focused, NOT THE X1), Windows media player is hardly the ultimate or even average multimedia experience, it does'nt even have Equalizers and the codec support is pathetic, but basically how are you supposed to know this, right? You've have'nt owned a WM phone or even used one for an extended period of time, you'd rather just argue now would'nt you.

3. The image viewer on WM is a joke when compared to todays solutions.

So according to you WM is multimedia friendly although it lacks support for
1. Equalizers
2. No codecs for audio or video
3. Pathetic built in client for playing music or videos
4. A pathetic image viewer
If these are your expectations from a multimedia phone, you WILL be extrememly happy with the X1 I assure you. But some of us have higher expectations from a platform that is actually worth our money

I agree straight out the box there is limited support using the windows media playeron the device, but most wm users use 3rd party such as TCMP player, Sorry if i have interpreted your post wrong but I thought you had the opinion that it wasnt possible to play other codecs,
Also whats the news of the opengl 1 support on the kaiser under wm6

@Humble
I said manufacturers are working around the problem of WM not being a multimedia oriented platform.

I personally use CoreCodec, worth every dollar(20USD). But a Multimedia oriented OS would'nt require external software to play basic media now would it?

I have OpenGL 1.0 working on my TyTn II. I think it should work on your Polairs as well. But since theres no 2D acceleration the page rendering while using TOuchFLo is still jerky. No video acceleration is available as well. Although using QTv support I get 82% benchmarking with a 640*480 23fps dvd rip, which is just about watchable.

I forgot to add that its on WM6.1 only for now. Some incompatibilities with the ddi.dll file in WM6
