I've had my W810i for over 2 years now and really want to upgrade to a better phone. The coming-soon G900 is very appealing, but it lacks GPS, which is very disappointing, as this is a feature I would use a lot, as I'm always getting lost!

I know there's the HGE-100 accessory, to get GPS functionality, but I've heard things about it like the software is crap, or you have to have an ongoing subscription payment to the service, or that it's internet-based or whatever.

Is it actually any good, and therefore, would the G900 in conjunction with this device give me all I need or should I look for a different phone that has it all?

you dont have to use that to get gps...you can simply use an external bluetooth gps antena, together with TomTom, Garmin, Wayfinder, etc

Yes, the Royaltek RBT-2100 GPS with the popular 20-channel Sirf III chip, for instance, which is included in the P1i package (either as Royaltek or Wayfinder branded), performs very well. You may get further info on their websites.

Edit: Royaltek has it no longer on their website.
The new equivalent is RBT-2300

Wayfinder is still offering it though:

@stephen

The points you have asked about are the main features which could sway your decision, but tbh, the accelorometer isnt that great...., yes, its cool the first 20 times you do it, and its great when your friends see it are like .
But besides the wow factor, its something that a simple click of the 'landscape' button can do.

And as for hsdpa, if your not a massive data user, i dont think hsdpa would offer you any great advantages.

The video capture quality of the G900 is suficiently respectable, Qvga at 30fps i think (correct me if not).

As for the sound quality, i can't comment on that. Anyone?
