Just released for Asian model ~ and fingerprint unlock is back! So it resumed back it's function instead of using the ADB. @moogoo you can feel the difference when they programmed it differently. You can unlock by keeping your thumb / finger on the button instead of removing and press again to unlock.

Really? A17 brings back fingerprint only on power button press? that's great!
I am still waiting for japanese A17. I need to make sure I can update without overwriting my modified policy files too. Hopefully, it's as simple as when I do firmware security updates.

A soft touch with your finger on the powerbutton and the phone is immediately unlocked.
Just configured it in A17.
Works better than I could have imagined.

I read that Sony disabled the fingerprint sensor unlockāwhere you press the sensor to unlock the phoneāto extend the lifespan of the sensor itself, since itās well known that Sony sensors tend to gradually stop working over time. I actually had to replace the one on my old Xperia 1 IV myself. We should take this information with a grain of salt, but having disassembled the component myself, it makes sense to me. For now, Iām keeping the feature disabled.

I don't see how disabling the setting option to enable "unlock on press only" would extend the lifespan of the sensor. I makes more sense to do the opposite and have the sensor not reading constantly with every touch of a finger and ONLY read when the power button is pressed.
to that end, my 1m2 sensor worked perfectly fine since day 1 and still works to this day with zero issues.

The issue lies in the pressure applied to the button itself, which was likely exerting force on a "sensitive" part of the component. Iām not entirely sure, but I read on a forum somewhere that they had disabled it for this reason. If you look on Reddit, you'll find dozens upon dozens of discussions about dead fingerprint sensors, dating all the way back to the very first Series 1.
