A common language is useful for business as well as making it a lot easier to travel within Europe; however, I would hate to see other European languages disappearing because of it.

The problem with defining how widespread a language is depend son, which criteria we use to define the term 'widespread'. We can choose either the number of people who speak a language (either as a first or second language) or we could choose the global spread of the language.
German, for example, is spoken by more than a hundred million people around the world, yet it is confined as a major language, in geographic terms, to central Europe. In European term sit is a major language, in global terms, it isn't. Chinese is spoken by more than a billion people, but outside of China there are few places where it is a major language.
There are really only two truly global languages, English and Spanish. Both are spoken by hundreds of millions, if not billions, of people as both first and second languages and both are major languages around the world in many nations. English seems to have the upper hand at the moment in terms of the number of speakers and the geographic area covered, being a major language on every continent and in most of the world's countries (usually as a second language).

I would suggest to create a new language. From each country would come the best philologian or more and would create a new language. That way, no one would feel to be cheated or said: "Why not my language? Is my language not so good? We from our state are not so good as others? Why your language?" People would maybe hate that language of other country. The new language would be teached as a second language in every state. What do you thinks guys?

It's the highest time to create it.

@boto: Unfortunately, I did French at school, and I can't remember most of that!
@elrond: Didn't someone try to create an easy to learn, 'universal' language, called Esperanto that was based on Spanish/Portugese?
I would suggest English has an upper hand at the moment, as it is the language of the internet - how many people here are from countries where English isn't the first language? However, I read a history of the English language, and apparently it is a Germanic language, although it has a hotch potch of various other languages in it, like Latin, French, Spanish, Greek, etc.
I'd say leave things as they are, each countries native language is part of it's heritage.

But i understand almost all from tv or radio.

Yes I know English language is no 1 over all world.
I just wanted to provoke. A little

@boto: I'd love to learn another language (although I'm very short on time currently!), possibly French to build on what little I can remember from school I do sometimes feel a bit ashames when I go abroad and can barely speak a work of the local language, espeically when it seems so many from other countries can speak English, and to a good standard.
