Excerpt from SE's FAQ for the K700...
I get no indication that the phone is charging. What is wrong?
With an empty battery it can take up to 30 minutes for the charging icon to appear in the display. Meanwhile, the
red LED located behind the ON/OFF button will be lit to indicate that the phone is charging.
When the charging icon appears in the display, the LED will be turned off.
Cheers.

SE's upgrade service seems to be down at the moment. Any ideas as to why, or how long it'll be down?
The problem for Sony Ericsson was that people who updated their phone didn't notice that it got corrupted at once since the phone functioned properly afterwards. When people have used their phone for a while, they noticed that some of its user interface was corrupted.
...
By checking your log file called "mySEUSlog" in the "log" folder, you should be able to see if your phone got corrupted somehow when performing the update. If any of the lines say "Warning Signature invalid! File will be deleted" or "Error", then you most likely have corrupted and/or missing files on your K700i. You just might not have noticed it since it could be a file you haven't been trying to use yet.
exactly what happened to me. Camera stopped working, some pictures disappeared, logo for Internet services corrupt
And I have the following lines in mySEUSlog:
09.49.21:050 12 Warning Signature invalid! File will be deleted (by) homeflash.id
09.49.21:050 13 Warning Signature invalid! File will be deleted (by) homeflash.id
09.49.52:409 14 Info File signature is ok, file downloaded successfully. (by) com.sonyericsson.homeflash.t
09.49.54:847 15 Info File signature is ok, file downloaded successfully. (by) com.sonyericsson.homeflash.t
handed it in for service, thought I would get the phone replaced, but it turned out that the phone had a wetness-problem as well. Yeah, I had it in my pocket in the rain one day, and it got a bit wet, but working fine anyway (except for the bugs mentioned above). Well, thing is that the guarantee does not cover for phones with wetness-problem, so I got the phone in return. AND I had to pay about 40 Euro for the work because it was not covered by the guarantee!! I tried to tell them that the wetness-problem had occured AFTER the problems from the upgrade, but that didn't seem to impress them.
So, now I have a phone with lots of bugs and which can not be replaced because it accidentially got a couple of raindrops on it
And they could not downgrade it to R2A041 either...
Tough luck, IMO.

@pjw
I'm sorry to read that you were one of those people who got their phone corrupted while using the Online Update Service. Since your phone has suffered from water inside itself, they have the legal right to claim that the warranty is no longer valid. It's standard with most international and domestic laws. Sorry!
If the firmware got corrupted before you got water inside the phone (and the phone is still working) you have the right to have the firmware re-installed at no cost. But it's you that have to show (prove) that the firmware was corrupted before you got water inside the phone - otherwise they will always claim that the water messed with the phone and got the system corrupted. That's impossible for you to do - it's a "no win situation" for you! Try to check your home insurance and see if it covers your situation instead.
Good luck!

Doesn't the log show the date when you upgraded the firmware and the phone became corrupted?

I dont think so. But there is an error log. It may tell when the phone got corrupted. But they could always say that water might have been there before that.

Think it's probably down to how you argue your case.
Like many things in life it's really minimal cost to the company to repair your phone but they know most people will go off with their tail 'tween their legs when they are told it's not covered under the warranty.
If you're commited enough and stick to your guns I don't see why you won't get it sorted.
There's enough evidence and testimonials on here with regards to the SE US service corrupting phones, use that in your argument.
Think you've gotta just keep chipping away at them on this one. I wouldn't give up without a fight. Water damage would normally stop the phone functioning not corrupt firmware flashed onto a phone's chip?
sure someone can correct me if i'm wrong on that one

when I handed it in the first time, the service center had no clue what to do and that it was a common problem, so they opened it up. That's how they found out about the water-problem... And when I tried to tell them that there really was a problem with the phone, regardless of the water, they just said that the guarantee did not cover for it. I did not know at that time that you could get the complete software upgraded, if I had known, I would have asked them to do it.
Anyway, I was thinking about handing the phone in again, now that these problems may be a bit more known to the service center. And just hope they do not discover the water-thing

Well, I finally got the phone fixed! Handed it in to a service center which re-installed the SW. All my contacts etc. were lost, but that doesn't matter. Now I can again use my camera, see all icons and receive MMS! In other words, the phone is usable again. I also got R2AA003. And the wetness-problem was not an issue (probably because they didn't notice). Dilemma is now if I should stick with the k700 or start using my new Nokia 6630...
Great stuff
