Hi folks!
Have you heard? Cell C would launch EDGE and 3G by the end of this year 2005! Let's just hope the additional competition puts MTN and Vodacom on their toes.
Read the story here:
Cell C to offer EDGE and 3G

@ Alpha & KBR, love it!!! Nothing like a healthy bit of competition... And we're bound to benefit in some way or other.

The Virgin brand is way more appealing than Cell C...four years after launching the only thing I like about Cell C is their funny cinema ads.

Hey buddy are you excited or what? I can view web pages on my cell since early 2003. We are in sept.2005 if I am not mistaken. If you could view flash movies on your cell then I might understand your excitement, but to get a hard attack just because you can see web pages ,I don't know . . .

I'm visiting the homeland next week; just want to know, is it worth buying a local PAYG sim and vouchers or am I better off using my UK sim on O2 contract and pay the roaming costs?
If payg is better/cheaper, which network do you suggest and what's the call charges per minute? Do you still get shafted by pay per minute or did the operators enter the new century and charge per second?
Looking forward to proper biltong, Chinese Chutney Simbas, Boerewors with Pap&Sous and Creme soda!!! Lets not forget potjiekos and bunny-chow. bliksem, I'm starting to drool now so I'll submit this post...

@ Uncle Bob,
I think it would be best to find out from 02 directly what 02 will charge you for roaming costs on your contract.
I am on 02 PAYG,but there is no ways I am paying 20p-50p a minute to speak to customer services(for 02 online-SIM PAYG);I presume that this might be different to contract customers?Anyway, I usually go into the local 02 store down the road to find out any 02 info. etc.
However,I didn't even bother finding out from 02 this time round, cos the overseas roaming call costs are usually bloody expensive, well on PAYG anyway...
Perhaps it would also be best to check out MTN's and Voda's sites to see what PAYG package would best suit your needs;there are a few options. The call cost structures are easy enough to access on these sites.
Haven't you been following the forum lately?
I have just returned back to Soutieland. When recently in SA,I bought a Voda PAYG sim, which cost a whole 40p or so, from your nearest Pick n' Pay.And I had signal all over SA...
Just don't expect a Voda R110 voucher to last the equivalent of £10 worth of O2 calltime in the UK...
