The phone has the quickshare logo so it's a prototype. I guess all the prototype owners are sensing the final release is near and want to cash in as much as they can before the final product is released (another example is the phone that aafshari bought). Thank god that sony changed the logo to p990 on the bottom, otherwise there wouldn't have been any visible proof that the handset is not the production model.

Yup if anything thats the only smart thing SE have done, changed the logo from quickshare to P990. At least people will be able to tell which is which although i feel ever so sorry for the mug who ends up buying that phone on ebay.
Perhaps i should report him as im sure its against SE's policy to sell proto units...

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Also note that he hasn't stated what condition the phone is in.

I was refering to the Condition tab where he put a "-". Nonetheless, very lightly used doesn't mean anything. Another factor is the very poor quality of the images he used. If there is any scratches or demaged buttons, you wouldn't be able to see them. The outside of the box is also hidden. I think its obvious the phone is a prototype and I'm trying to find a link to report this guy to ebay.

at least he´s selling something that exists...i think he shouldn´t be reported

he also doesn´t state it has warranty, or even that it is a retail version (he doesn´t mention the box)...IMHO, people should now the risks they´re taking if they buy it

Not only is that P990i on Ebay a prototype, but I have a farily good idea where it has come from too: I may be imagining it, but the screenshots with the flip open look rather like the device is running the rather nasty Orange Homescreen app (easily identified by the nasty fixed wallpaper and the row of Orange style shortcut icons down the left hand side).

As least we now know that it looks like Orange will be forcing their rubbish onto the P990i so everyone can now avoid the Orange branded versions like the plague.

I'm guessing this is a no longer used prototype from Orange that has no doubt "dissappeared" only to find its way onto the 'bay.

LOL - and I spoke to them this morning myself for the very same reason - they seemed to think the 01/08 date was still good.
They were also pretty non-comittal over the preorder price and wouldn't either confirm or deny which price I'd end up paying - all they could say was if the release date comes round and you get an email saying your order has been cancelled you'll know why, but if you hear nothing other than an "order shipped" email you'll pay the lower price. How useless is that...

Now, some info from a reliable source (michal from my-symbian)

Quote:Also, can you ask SE about any updates on the release date???

Last time I heard it was beginning of August.

´s talk about new delays, but i don´t believe SE is gonna do it again, not with so stable firmware on the P990!

If the firmware was unstable and the unit was not ready for release, they wouldn't send me one (I was waiting for the release version almost 6 months and they kept refusing to send me any unfinished unit). On the phone I got today there is a label "Acceptance unit".
