Hey Tapas

Good News, The Sony India site shows the availability of new update, "10.3.A.0.423". But I checked using PC Companion and it is not available yet for download. So it's matter of only couple of days before we get the update!!!

Good going Sony! They have outed the 4.2.2 JB update quite quickly considering the time they took for 4.1.2 JB. Good work guys and Thanks.

The changes I've noticed:

Lock screen widgets are now available
DUALSHOCK3 controller compatibility
MyXperia - locate if lost service
Daydream, can't see the point of this
White balance app (not sure if this was in the last 4.1.2 FW)
Quick Settings - editable notification bar widgets
Task manager is now full screen instead of just down one side
Task manager now shows the app that is currently open (this annoyed me that it didn't before)
You can now use any widget as a Small App, like on Tablet Z (very useful)
New turn off the screen animation (slow and even fade out)
Slow Talk - slow down the speech of the other person
Internet calling (not sure if that was there before)
Developer options are hidden by default
The screen seems to look even better again with this FW, I have no complaints with it any more, I used to believe it was average at best, but now I'm proud

I don't know what's new in the stock launcher, I got rid of that quite quickly. Also a few of the other stock apps I don't use (e.g. walkman) so I don't know if there've been any updates there.

There are a few things I don't like:

When you turn the screen on and come to the lock screen the different screen's pane-style outline shows. I can see they've put it there to remind people they can swipe the lock screen to use lock screen widgets, but I have always hated those pane outlines, they're ugly and clutter the place.
Swiping the lock screen from the right for the camera shows an entire lock screen pane with just a small camera icon in the middle. Hideous to look at.
Turning the screen on from standby sometimes feels slow, I'd like to have seen it react faster.
Unlocking the screen and waiting for the home screen to load up can sometimes feel slightly slow, I think they just need to turn up the animation speed.

All in all it's an ok update but they have put in some things that are going to grate my cheese a bit.

With regards to waiting for your region's FW, if you don't need the regional apps then try using flashtool and an ftf file from xda. It won't break the phone, you don't need root or an unlocked bootloader, it won't void your warranty.

..and it won't keep you waiting for a few more weeks.

here in USA, rumors is that the T-Mobile exclusive Sony Xperia Z (a.k.a. C6606) should be released on July 14th-17th. No word on the price yet, but I'm thinking USD $149.99 down payment and $20 per month for 24 months.
Anyway, I'm set on buying this once it on sale.
However, I also remember another Xperia Z model C6616 that came thru the FCC the same time as the C6606. I wonder what this C6616 is?
Think this might be the Xperia Z with Snapdragon 800 CPU, with the different LCD, etc.?

Don't like to buy a phone and then Sony release a new model with a little higher price range that due within weeks after I bought mine. Like to get all the info first.

@Big_D

Not sure what the C6616 is, I don't seem to remember that code being passed around anywhere.

I'm not certain we'll see an exact replica of Z only with an S800 chipset. If we do, it'll have a slightly different design e.g. the carbon/metal back Maia is talking about in the rumours thread or a soft touch finish like Tablet Z with metallic rim like Z Ultra. It would effectively be a refresh handset, like used to do after 6 months.

So far as a new handset with a similar price tag goes, I think if they do release a slightly better handset within a short period of time then the price of Z will come down a bit to increase it's market longevity.

Also, if it's taking this long for a T-Mobile North America version to be released, then you ought to expect any new handset to take just as long after global release to reach T-Mobile, going by what history tells. Saying that the new S800 is supposedly true multi band world chipset, whether or not manufacturers use the full capabilities is a whole other discussion.

@Indiandawg
I've not noticed any drops in connection or unreliability yet, but I only had dodgy connection occasionally before and I've only been on the new FW a few days.

Can anyone check that if Wi-Fi tethering works with the new FW?
