The FCC document clearly shows that the device has a 7" display. Measurement of display: 164,19mm x 79,50mm and a diagonal of 178,33mm which turns into 7,02 inch.

Although these are just rumors, if Sony make a 7" phablet they sure should close down their mobile biz. What kind of a market research is that? It makes me sad how a big company is being ruined by morons...
Again if the 7" phablet is real. No offense

Aren't big handhelts with phone capabilities quite popular in some regions? Then why not offer a 7 inch Xperia "phonlet"? And if the next in line Z gets a 5,5" screen then I don't see the point of offering a 5,7" or 5,8" Ultra. Maybe a 6" Ultra, but statistics of the recent past showes that the demand for 6" and above phones are quite low.

^ Well 6 inch phablet with Note size would sweep the market in that category. I know nobody that wants a 7 inch phone around me. I think you do? If 6.44 was huge and was turned down by the customers why bother enlargening it? I hope it's a midranger. By the way I am a Z Ultra user since 2013, this year I'll upgrade. 7 inch is a no go even for me.

We can't disputes the fcc measurements... i can not think of any xperia smartphone line that would fit into this size category other then the characteristics of z ultra. do you remember this:
http://www.sonyalpharumors.co[....]e-new-rx-ff-on-market-in-2015/
talking about the display measurements only, i just drew the exact dimensions with pencil and paper. the fcc measurements are 100% or almost 100% of this supposedly leaked render.
@ JohnnyNr.5
show me a statistic that show that 7" smartphones (tablet phone capabilities) are more popular then 5.7-6" once. i am talking about daily driver use, not mini tablet use.

I decided to draw this out physically because math wasn't helpful in visualizing it and things were not adding up. I drew out the dimensions first, 79.5 x 164.19 on a piece of paper and then cut a piece out which measured 178.3mm give or take a mm or 2. I then placed said diagonal of 178mm and positioned it into the drawn out earlier dimensions and it fits, with about 1-2mm margins around it. So it works contrary to my previous calculations.
Thing is, the image is a bit deceiving, it looks like it is 16:9 or even 16:10 but in reality, the side is twice as long as the width, so as blackzeros pointed out, 21:9, which is odd if you ask me. I am not sure there were many phones with such a ratio, I do recall one from LG, the BL40.

As JohnnyNr.5 mentions, even if the Z5 goes to 5.5 inches, a 7 inch phablet would be way too large and 5.8, maybe 6 inches which same footprint as a 5.7 or 5.8 would make more sense.

@ascariss
Yup. they do something interesting with the display ratio but handicap it with measurements that only fit for occasional use or as an addition to a main smartphone.

z3x's screen resolution was 2560/1152 so ratio is 20:9 it can be applied to this device also.

@amirprog
We'll just wait and see if anything leaks out before ifa, like you posted the post from XB about the Z3/Z3c, we still have nothing concrete except photos of lavender, 5 model numbers and a supposed E57xx device.
I did find a new sensor from sony, the IMX278
http://www.sony.net/Products/[....]S/sensor1/products/imx278.html
http://www.sony.net/Products/[....]oductBrief_IMX278_20150715.pdf
13MP, type 1/3.06
Wonder if this is the sensor in the C4 and M4? Or a new sensor all together?

@Amirprog I didn't say that Mini-Tablets are more popular than phablets. I was talking about 6" and above phablets not selling well.
@All
Do you remember recent news about Sony Mobile working on a new Android concept software build for Xperia devices? This beta is only available for Z3 users (not compact). Maybe the exclusion of the Compact has something to do with a new interaction design suited for bigger phones, like in the days of the LG BL40 which had a special UI that took advantage of the big 21:9 ratio display.
