Unfortunately not, Gelfen is completely correct in his observation. You need see-through tape, but the egg cups must be opaque in nature or you dont get the high-quality x-ray visualisation.

There is nothing to replace it with, if you substitute the egg cups for something else, ity just won't work.

Does it matter what material the egg cups are made from? I'm just wondering because plastic has a much higher sub-optical rarefractive coefficient than porcelain, which in theory means it wouldn't work quite as well, but it's much easier to make the required 20 micron pinhole in a plastic cup.

I suppose using wooden egg cups would solve both problems but I can't lay my hands on any at the moment. Have you tried plastic cups before?

Not 20 holes, you have make one hole in the bottom of each cup but the hole has to be very small, just 20 Microns (0.002mm) across. It's easy enough to do, you just need a very small needle or a hyperdermic syringe but if the egg cups are made from porcelain then you'll need a very small model makers drill which is expensive. Trouble is, in theory porcelain cups would work better so I might invest in a drill anyway.
