@ vanquish - well apart from the m board a mac can be just as easily updated, but it does cost more.

Is it just me?but i personally don't like the idea very much of Apple's pc's with Intel chips...I thought it was that set Apple and Windows pc's apart.
Its the Mac OS that set Macs and Windows PCs apart, not the chips underneath.
Although Intel and Motorola chips are architectually quite different, the end result of what they can be programmed to do is basically the same, although one chip architecture will have advantages and disadvantages compared to the other in specific areas.
As can be now seen, Apple can program Mac OS to run on both Intel and Motorola chipsets identically.
End-users see the Operating System that they use, and the chips that make the OS run is irrelevant to them.
The Mac OS makes the Mac a Mac!

Apple now worth more than Dell
From
http://www.tuaw.com/
MacDailyNews is
reporting that, just yesterday, Apple's market worth (price of shares multiplied by number of shares outstanding) has hit $72,132,428,843, surpassing Dell's $71,970,702,760.
This sounds like quite the feat for a computer company that has only ~6% of the market.

hey this is cool, a mac versus windows thread where most posts are common sense! I like Vanquish's early post on the matter - mac being better for designers etc and pc being more flexible. This is one hundred percent true. I also agree with his comments about design, however there are some pretty nice pc laptops out there too!
The fact is each system has pros and cons and neither is "perfect". The old "mac's don't get viruses line" is perhaps the stupidest thing I've ever heard said in the debate mac versus pc. My PC's don't get viruses. Admitedly they are properly protected, but also remember Mac's aren't a target of virus writers so of course they don't get viruses, that's no reflection on the strength of the Mac OS. If it was a target it would be hit just as hard as Windows.
However it's also true that Mac is more user friendly for those who don't wish to have any concept how the computer works. However this means the Mac is less flexible and more confined in how it's used. One of the complaints by mac users of windows is that there is always several ways to do any one thing, but in my view this is a strength, and one of the reasons I prefer Windows over Mac for most purposes.
So really the strengths of one can't really be reconciled with the strengths of the other. They are two different systems.

I think Apple's move to the Intel duo-core is brilliant move.
Mac computers and laptops have always had a reputation of beingvery well made machines, both in a hardware and software sense.
In realtion to earlier comments on the difference in connectivity of PC's to mac's, I agree that PC's have the edge on this topic, but the difference in the last couple of years has shrunk significantly, as more and more systems become compatible with macs. I personally won't let this stop me, as long as I can connect to a bluetooth device and a WiFi network i'm happy...
So once I've saved a bit more, its off to the Mac store in regents street for me...
Cheers
