It can't possibly be a driver who is tied to a racing championship like formula 1 or similar. The Top Gear filming and formula 1 racing timetables would clash with each other, and half the time they'd be out of the country. It just wouldn't work!
Does nobody agree it looks like Schumacher? Can't see him doing the job, but it does look like him. To me at least.

There are more than one Stig, Lewis hamiltom has taken part a few yearsago but for the main it is Ben Collins, He is stated as working as a performance driver and advisor for the program in the Health and Safety Executive report into Hamsters crash,

there is also a vid on youtube where the stig is interviewed. and the voice is exactly the same as Collins.
Also if you read the Crash report for Hammonds crash, it says the he is a high performance driver and consultant for top gear , which would suggest he is the stig
