As much as I can appreciate that emotions may have been running high, those men are supposedly trained soldiers. They are trained to react professionaly in tough situations, not to give into their emotions.

depends what you meen by trained many soldier over there are nothing more than ta soldiers with minimal basic training. also many of the soldiers there are not much more than kids themselves. i think we shouldnt buy into the myth that the british army is some highly trained machine those days are long gone many of the people on the ground have limited education and skills and join the army as a last resort

then they shouldn't have sent people with minimal training dont you think?
Wasn't Iraq supposed to be a huge threat?
If it isn't now, what are the soldiers doing there still?

I'm sure the superior at least must have advanced training. And I'm sure minimal training still has a high standard.
Didn't the British Army adverts on tv say that 99.9% need not apply, which indicates they're picky?

edit: @solid, minority to me, means a small group compared to the whole group. 3 out of 10 is a minority. 20 out of 500 is a minority and so on.
1% to me is a minority

thats very true but the people in the army probably feel the same way imagine you go to help someone and they turn around and steal your wallet or beat you up as you try to help.
im not justifying what they did just offering a different view that while barbaric under a different circumstance it may not have hapened

@solidsingh

I believe that all human beings share the same basic ideals; to be happy, to live in peace and to make sure their family are safe. I don't think Muslims are any different to non-Muslims in that regard. Extremists can be found all over the world in just about any religion you care to look at. I think the extremists we see are indeed a minority, I don't believe that most Muslims want war and conflict.

that advert is for the marines. put it this way would you join the army if you were had a chance?
its easy to say they should nt have sent people who arent fully trained but the reality of life is if you need x amount of people and oonly y are qualified you still have to send x amount.
also you can only train people so much you dont know how someone will react when put in a real life situation. you can be trained to drive a car but when you get out on the road on your own thats when you find out if you can really drive or not. some people can drive and some people cant

@slattery, I'm going to make a funny skit to show what I see the soldiers help as, as soon as Omar feels better.

but to get the jist.

*man sitting on sidewalk*
*American walks up*
Am- Hey there.
Man- Hi.
Am - can I help you?
Man - no thank you, dont need help.
*American grabs mans arm*
Am- LET ME HELP YOU!
Man - No!!!! Get off me!
Am- NO! YOU NEED HELP! *punches Man in the face*
Man- Get away from me!!!!! *punches back*
*American reaches for radio*
Am- breaker I've got a situation here, man is refusing help and stopping freedom from commencing, how shall I proceed?
Breaker- Uh, just kick him in the nuts when no one's looking.

I can see where you are coming from with this. However, I must disagree. The British Army is one of the most highly trained forces in the world and the level of training provided is substantial compared with most other armies around the world. The army isn't training people to be intellectuals, they are training people to be good soldiers who can handle themselves well under stress.

I don't think that it is a sufficient excuse to say that emotions were running high. British soldiers are trained to act professionaly in such situations.

Even if we were to use that excuse it still does not account for the role the sergeant played in the matter. He is supposed to be leading men and should be a capable soldier who is able to conduct himself well in difficult situations and lead by example.
