SE is probably making these early announcements to make the consumers think twice before buying other brands. It's like they're saying "Just wait a little while and we'll be selling this model soon". We can see how they are trying to cover all market segments this year.
I also agree, the P990 has been taking so long to release. There's a lot of new stuff involved in this one so I think SE is still trying to make it as bug-free as possible. I hope they change it to 3MP camera as a bonus for those who waited

sometimes people get fed up of waiting & go ahead & buy another phone from a different manufacturer. which means 1 less se phone sold & 1 more for the competitor.

Agreed. By the time the P990 is released, it's specs will probably not look so great anymore. Let's say it's released in September, 2mp will not look so great anymore now will it.

That it quite true, the more it is delayed the older the specs become, but many here will still buy it and i for one will

@shaliron, true. take a look at the o2 atom, it has 90% of the p990's features & is already a sell out at a little less than $ 1k u.s. most of the atom owners are impatient potential p990 buyers who are fed up of waiting.

I switched from

exactly because I was tired of waiting endlessly for the P990 to come out. I had my K750i but then, for business reasons, I needed something more "PDA-like". The current P series was too old for me (no Wi-Fi just to name something) and nothing was on the horizon.
Somebody here wrote that the P990 is taking long because there is a lot to be checked before the release. This might have been true last year, but this year several manufacturers released phones with pretty much the same specs as the P990... The tech is therefore widely available. If Sony always wants to do things "in house" that's another problem!
I have an "Orange" branded version (SPV M5000) of the Qtek 9000 and, although heavy and not as stylish as some

phones it works like a breeze (Windows Mobile 5.0 surprised me in this regard).
Is the phone perfect? NO!
Is it "cool"?NO!
IS IT ON THE MARKET? YEEEES!!!!!!

yes but the phones with 3.2MB are dedicated camera phones with very few of the features you'd expect in a smartphone like the P990. The P990 isn't a "camera phone" so it's not so critical that it compete with the latest MP available. The P990 will have more than enough appeal with a 2MP camera for most business/smartphone users.
