O2 started charging some of their online customers for GPRS usage a couple of months ago, after it had been free for a long time, for reasons noted earlier in this thread.

Before it happened I received a text message that read as follows:

O2: We hope you enjoyed the O2 Active free promo. Charging begins from 2nd May 2006 but remember it is only £2.35/MB. For money saving Bolt Ons see o2.co.uk

Oh well, I thought. It was great while it lasted, so I noted the date with a view to stopping using it then.

However, weeks later I received another text that read:

O2: We hope you enjoyed the O2 Active free promo. Charging begins from 2nd June 2006 but remember it is only £2.35/MB. For money saving Bolt Ons see o2.co.uk

So, I thought, great, another month of free usage! Well, guess what? I used it without restraint for that month, and got hit with GPRS usage for May of £220.73.

I complained, they denied that the second text message had ever been sent and said they wouldn't refund that amount. I've lost those text messages and so can't prove I received them. With charging at "only" £2.35 per MB I'd have to be a lottery winner to consider it affordable, when that equates to about 60 pence per page load in Pocket IE or Opera for WM5.

So, I need to know if anyone else received a text message stating charging would begin 2nd June?

If so, when did you receive the text?

I don't believe what o2 customer services tell me. In the past year I've received premium text messages which I didn't sign up for, and couldn't stop. Each time I contacted customer services I got a response which contradicted the previous one. I've also been unable to access my online account for ages, each time they'd tell me to clear my cache, even when I'd tell them this doesn't work. They've now told me it's a problem affecting a small amount of Internet Explorer users, and that I should download Firefox as it'll work using that. I'd rather use a rusty spoon to dismember myself than use Firefox. If o2 can't even ensure that I can access my account using Internet Explorer, the industry standard when it comes to web browsers, then I want them to release me from my mobile phone contract without penalty.

I'm so sick of them that I'll take them to the small claims court if I have to.
