Since June/July there were reports that the P990 seemed to be short on RAM and this was confirmed by early adopters in mid August so given that why did you buy one? And now that you have one why do you need to run ActiveSync and TomTom at the same time - do you really need to see new emails while driving? Yes the low RAM is annoying but there are work arounds. I never keep Messaging, Media Player and Web open at the same time so I don't get any problems. The P900 was also a low RAM unit (why have people forgotten about this????) and you had to be careful with running too many apps.

There are some great things about the P990, but Jah... you can't dismiss his point there.
Just for example, on my 'dumb' K800i i can listen to music, run a java game, have my email sync every 10 mins, and leave the web browser open on a page i wish to return to soon, and all at once. Without issues.
This is called multitasking! The idea of a device concurrently running multiple processes at once.
Switch to my 'smart' P990i, where i try to listen to music, view a web page, and then i go to write a document (or check my messages). One, several, or all processes will close upon launching the third 'intensive' task. Bang there goes my music, bang there goes the page i was looking at. no warning, no prompt, just dissapears silently. This is BAD! Bad for any phone, simple as that, and there's no avoiding it.
The P990 has some great features, especially all in one single device, but these great features are crippled, as you can't ask it to do more than one or two things at once. I hope SE manage to unlock the potential of the P990i as a productivity device.
Currently i prefer to use my 'dumb' K800 as it lets me do more at once without once going process-postal on me.
Just to add some balance, what i love about the P990i:
great screen
surprisingly good keyboard once you get used to it
accurate stylus
excellent video quality
improving software range
tomtom6
good browser
good document support
decent battery life with the BST-34 installed
wifi!
bluetooth IP networking
scummvm!
good email client
some gorgeous themes
Decent still camera and good quality QVGA video recording

Surely on your K800 all the apps where alot lighter, I agree that SE did underestimate the amount of ram on the phone but to compare the app uses on them doesn't quite seem right.
The P990's 'basic' apps like messaging are alot more powerful than on equivelent phones so would need more RAM to run.
Also remember that UIQ 3 is a new operating system and they prob havent quite sorted out the memory management side of it yet. I'm sure there will either be a FW upgrade or some third party software that will be able to help with this. SE cant ignore such a big problem.
The closing of the programmes without any warning is worrying though.

whats the obsession with seeing how much ram you have left with swiss manager? i dont use it and have no problems. Why have a task manager running when there is a built in one on your phone that you can use to close your apps and it tells you how much memory they are using! So why have a program you dont need using up your ram?
i love my p990 had no problems with it apart from a couple of restarts but it doesnt bother me, id rather have a brilliant phone that resets once in a while than anything else available, or a crappy phone everyone else has that they think is the dogs bollocks until they see mine!

@mysh
I do know a bit about mobile devices.
1. My wife and may mother'n'loaw both have the K800. But the K800 does not have any Office apps, no BB client, no ActiveSync, the web browser is no way as good as Opera, no wifi, limited external memory, the video recording is inferior to the P990, etc
2. I have a Nokia 9500, Nokia 7710, P990 (x2), M600, P910, XDA Exec, etc and have had the P900, P800, E61 and the TyTN so I do know what multi-tasking is my friend
3. All devices I have used can do many things but not all at the functions at same time. Even the TyTn (yes I have had 3 of these) struggles if you use A2DP and web browse at the same time
4. The XDA Exec with a 520Mhrz CPU is slower than the P990 at times
EDIT: and don't think I am ignoring the RAM issue. I took 1/2 off work and went to the Smartphone show in London and I made sure UIQ, SE and Symbian staff were aware of the issue of the lowish RAM. And you check the threads here you'll see the the FW upgrade in Week 48 is aimed addressing the RAM issue
