Another reason for having the flip on is playing java games properly...try rally evolution 3d and you'll see

I thought 3D java games didn't work on the P990i? Have seen that said a couple of times.

I have been thinking more about the flip on flip off options, for me personally there are a few things that would make me def, stick with flip off:

1. The ability to customise the stand bye applications (like the m600i)

2. A quick way to put the phone on silence

3. When you receive a txt, a message pops up asking if you want to read it now (like when the flip is closed)
P.S. Having said that i have typing this now on without a flip (see how i like it over the weekend)

@ Gabster: you're absolutely right! Those are probably the only three things that I miss with the flip off... (hope SE is reading...)

Sounds weird but with the flip off (since 4 days ago) I feel like I have more phone for my money. Family agree that it looks sleeker, and some ppl think I've got a blackberry

i decided to try my p990i with the flip off and i must say that the p990i looks a lot better without the flip, but sometimes i do miss the handy keys on the flip on mode (silent mode, quick reply to message, etc.).

regarding this, here's my solution:
upon receiving a new message, scroll down the jog dial once and press it to open the activity menu. make sure that the today menu is selected as the default panel in the preferences. scroll down to the unread messages and the first lines, along with the number of the sender of the unread messages should be displayed on the screen. press the back button to exit. the unread messages should automatically be displayed the next time you open the today menu.

i hope that made sense.

I have been using flip closed ever since P800 was released, then with P900 and P910. I think I am quite good at FC mode I will give you an example. In 2002 or 2003 when the P900 was first released in Europe, I bought one and went to USA for business trip for a week. When I landed at Chicago I dropped the phone on the floor and the screen broke and I could no longer read anything from the screen. I called SE USA but they could not help me because the P900 wasnt realised yet in the US.
So for one whole week i used my phone perfectly well FC just by remembering all the things and not seeing anything.
But about a month ago I bought the P990 and started using it FC, just last week I decided that I will try FO because I thought the P990 looked sexier
At the beginning i had a very hard time getting used to FO. (by the way I am not using the stylus unless its very necessary) Now since 1 week I am used to FO quite well and i can use it with only 1 hand.
All you have to do is get used to tricks and shortcuts.
So far I can say that it's more difficult than FC.
When you type something make sure that you use two hands to type for very fast typing. The P990's keyboard is useless when you try to type something when you are lying on your bed, it will just fall off your hands. You must sit up for the keyboard using

Mine is FLIP OFF also.
I used P800 and P900 with Flip ON but for P990 I think FLIP OFF is better thanks to its QWERTY keyboard. It looks sexier in flip off and also feel thinner.
