In the iPhone biz, I think Apple is doing the right thing by letting someone else make the phone while they describe the feature set. If the go into the MVNO route, this is nothing more than them purchasing excess capacity from GSM operators and sell this capacity. This was done in Germany and worked and in the UK as well I think, so a win, win. The other guys, SE, and Nokia included have to go head to head in the digital media market with an established player. Regardless of what happens, it will be interesting and hopefully something good for the consumers.
As for the other issues with SE. I will not go down this road again. By saying that they have no plans to support Mac nor care about govt biz, I would say that SE has made their decision and will have to live with it.
Oh and I did fail to mention that in comparison the E-61:
1. is faster in operation
2. has better battery life
3. the ability to see the screen in ANY lighting condition (can't say this about the M600i)
4. a much better browser than that Opera or Operamini incarnation
I do lose A2DP and a touch screen (debatable if it is faster on a less stable and slower OS).

@sapporobaby: maybe forgot to add that E61 is ugly as hell?

@intelegent115
Maybe you forgot to say in your opinion?
beauty without function has no value i would always sacrifice a bit of looks for performance. As by your ethos the P990 is amazing just don't turn it on.

I don't know, Sapporo. I just don't see your points being made against the M600i, surely not in reference to the E61.
For starters, I'd sorely miss the multi-page browsing, the auto log-in to the many online sites on my bookmarks, the sheer elegance of the interface when combined with the jog-dial and the touch screen: A killer combo that no 4-way navigation will ever come close to! I have known this fact for quite a while using a P900 for close to 3 years, and now a P990i and an M600i. Both working as expected, perfectly stable as far as I use them, and having a definitely superior OS. Again, for ME and MY preference.
Yes the M600i's screen is not as good as the E61 in the brightest light. The P990i's is quite the opposite, strangely enough.
and no mass USB on Mac OSX is inexcusable, I agree.
What do I do? I browse my phone's folders through Bluetooth, on my PowerBook!! Works great and fast, at around 60KB a sec. Drag and drop, no wires to forget or lose.
Other minor interface elements that might irritate memay be the way Nokia's display the call log. I find SE's extended way much better. Also the way each OS displays and gives access to contacts with multiple numbers. Little, but quite significant things.
Oh, did I mention how seamless and easy it is to use those UIQ SE's as a 3G modem on the Mac? Out of this world!
An aside: Any news, REAL news, on the iPhone yet?

@Symbiatico,
Sync your UIQ natively to Mac OS and I am sold. However, I know that this does not and probably will not happen. SE has said numerous times that they do not plan to support the Mac platform. So no iSync for any SE Symbian phones. On the other hand, my E61 works just fine with iSync.

Sapporo,
Your E61 is a fine Nokia, I do not pretend to think otherwise. That being said, I do not think the OSX synching is a deal breaker for me yet. I'm so enamored by the other UIQ positives to even slightly consider anything else.
As a Mac user for more than 10 years, I have learned the nature of our beloved beast: we have to be content with what we have chosen as a platform. If something does not work with my OS out of the box, I usually try to find a solution. I do so ONLY if I deem it worth my while. In this case, I sent all my contacts through BT and survived.
It does annoy me that the P990i Whitepaper has iSync support written in several places, can't deny that. I am, however, still hopeful that SE and/or Apple will sort things out in the very near future and have things synching again. If it doesn't happen, well, then I won't be 100% happy with my P990i. Only about 99%.
Have fun y'al.

Symbiatico:
If you go to the iSync page[1], you will see a long list of SE Symbian phones that are supported with iSync. To say that 'So no iSync for any SE Symbian phones' is just ignorance on your part to research the topic; and I doubt the advice that you are giving the military based on your conclusion that it doesn't work on the Mac? Forget the part about the USB mass storage, but to say that all symbian phones don't work? Please research first. Your initial post on this topic had me scouring around the Internet to find any kind of validation; since my SE P910 worked great with OSX. In my last count, there were 34 SE phones listed, and 32 Nokia as working with iSync.
I had a month long debate between the E61 and the M600. Here is what I discovered. The only major difference between the two phones is wifi and the SIP stack that the E61 has. The rest of the differences are more personal and less hardware based. For me, the E61 was a bit too bulky as I operate phones using one hand at most times. I also didn't have the need for SIP or wifi; so the M600 was the easy choice.
It is not without its quirks though. I have yet to find an option (can someone help?) where it will light up the main screen on an incoming message or alert. From my information, there are no external lights on the device to alert on a pending message; maybe I missed something obvious?
