Sorry to but in..but:
Soundwise i am more pleased with my N73, now flashed to N73ME, than i was with my very good SE W800. I use a pair of sony in ear-phones(donīt remember the model but they go for about 40-50 euro) and the bass is wicked! With the N73ME firmware you got much richer sound and deeper bass. There is a loudness function and also a "stereo widener" wich is cool and gives a better sound when used playing through the phones speakers. Compared to the megabass in my W800 the N73 takes the cake. At least as good base as the W800 but not at the cost of the clearity of the sound! When using megabass(walkman) i think one looses the clarity of the sound. In N73ME you can fiddle with the sound settings even if you have the loudness on(of course). I mean when using megabass you only get:megabass. And my wide and vast research lol tells me that the camera in N73 is only beaten by the K800 camera by the fact that i lacks a real flash, but you can get descent fotos in poor light conditions if you keep yourself within a 80cm distance.(but thats another story, i know)
And i would say that there is really no more risk in "bricking" your phone if you upgrade from ordinary N73 firmware to N73ME firmware, than it is to do a regular firmware upgrade on your N73(same hardware just different product codes). I gave my N73 to a nokia service centre for an ordinary upgrade(made by proffesionals on proffesional equipment, mind you) and they managed to totally brick my phone! They had to send it to another nokia repair contractor to fix it. So there is always a risk of getting your phone crippled. Iīd say that the risk of bricking your phone when upgrading from N73 to N73ME is negible higher then doing a ordinary upgrade.
And yes the warranty will probably be voided. But if one keep quiet and play your cards right nokia might not notice or care that you have changed your firmware. It has happened! But off course donīt take my word for it. But for me it was all worth the risk!
Now i got a super-mp3 player(in my oppinion really better then theW800) and a good camera and a damn good phone- all rolled into one!
For those who have N73ME: try level 42- world machine, and feeeel da bass!

Well the sound doesnīt excactly get louder/higher but it gets oh so much richer and clearer with the N73ME(or N73ME firmware on an ordinary N73, as i have). And of course the mighty bass! But you have to buy proper headphones. The ones i got is just perfect for the N73ME! Lets put it like this: If you have tried SEW800i and liked the sound in that mp3-player i garantie you will be just as satisfied with the soundquality of the N73ME! Personally i think the sound is even better in the N73ME than the SEW800. You also have more options in the sound settings, as i mentioned in my earlier post. And you get a really good camera AND symbian with all its possibillities! (no lag at all in newer 3rd edtition of the s60)
You also get a easy to use software in the mp3 player. And "albumart"- the possibillity to view albumcovers. The sound quality is really good in aac at only 96 kb/s. Saves space!

Well i havenīt tried the W900 but i do think the W900 and the W800 are the same soundwise. The W900 just have a little tiny bit more advanced software in the mp3 player and a slightly better video camera.
I am certain the N73ME beats N80 in everything except that N80 has W-lan and the N73ME doesnīt. And of course it beats the hell out of the N80 when it comes to the mp3 player!
No i havenīt bought the black fascia. I have already spent money on a bag for my phone, good pair of in ear phones and the headphoneadapter and iīm thinking of buying a 2 gig memory card(you can get them for as cheap as 37 euro here). I do think the black ME looks better than the ordinary N73 but my white and red one looks good enough so i personally donīt want to spend money on that. But now i dare say that i have the best alround phone up to this date!
If one dares to do the "special upgrade process" then you will save about 50 to 70 euro. Thats how much it differs in price between the ordinary N73 and the N73ME (at least in Sweden) I dared to do it and to me it was worth the risk as the mp3 player is very important to me. And i get a very good camera too

Sure i maybe would have bought the N73 ME from the start but i didīnt know about it when i bought my ordinary N73. And as i said earlier you might even get lucky if something happens to your phone and you have to fix it at nokia. As i have understood it, the worst thing that can happen (at least here in Sweden) is that you maybe have to pay a sum euros to get it fixed. I think a guy payed 50 euro to get his samsung fixed when he had bricked it. But some here in Sweden claim that nokia might fix(reflash) your phone for free and wonīt bother to if you have changed the product code, maybe that is just goodwill from oneīs local nokia repair man. Of course i canīt promise that nokia will fix your phone if you have changed the product code and bricked it! Officially iīm sure the warranty is voided when you fiddle whith product codes

I also use the MP3 player function alot on my phone, and i wish i could get that red and white fascia for mine. I think 3uk only do the plum one
You gotta admit this Red and white one:
Looks alot better than this plum one:
And then theres the almighty black one
Red and black are stunners
