........................................................ whether we LIKE it or DON'T, the very DAY will COME that almost ALL handsets will have this 3G-feature on it ! Prepare for owning a 3G handset (in the FUTURE) then . . . .

I might go for a 3g handset..... Even though its only the initial stage of 3g implementation here in india... But i guess, i won't be using 3g that much in the forseeable future..

3G reception is kinda flakey where I live. So long as I'm in the city I'm ok with the services. But if I'm out and about around my locality, then it's GSM most of the time. If 3G services were a bit more affordable then I'd subscribe to the TV thing with vodafone. I do use the 50 free minutes of video calling I get every month. but most of the time we switch the cameras off and just use it to speak.

I figure that the networks need to find out what T-mobile are doing to be able to provide such excellent data deals and come up with their own answers to it. I use a k800i on WnW as a modem for my laptop. It'd be much better for myself and I'm sure other customers; if vodafone had more affordable data solutions.

I think whether u need 3G/UMTS or not is depend to your needs and the situation near you. I mean, if you don't need wireless big bandwith for fast internet connection, than you don't need 3G/UMTS. if you are a heavy user internet and got lucky to have a hot-spot area for Wifi with a big bandwith, and you have a Wifi enabled device, than you don't need 3G/UMTS.

but if you want to have fast internet, don't have a near hotspot wifi area, and don't have a wifi device, and especially you are a mobile person, i think 3G/UMTS is a must. the speed is much much better and faster than the speed of dialup with 56K phone modem or normal GPRS (2G).

Good point, Ryolasta!

I only add that if you sometimes want to make a videocall then you must have 3G phone. But if you are regular mobile phone user and you don't need high speed data transfer, it's better to switch 3G off from your phone to save the battery life.

PS. If you travel to Japan and/or South Korea you also need a 3G phone, because there is no good old GSM.
