i've been using it without sm pro always on since yesterday (tweak peaks i stopped using for good, speed is ok now), and its still stable, free ram doesnt drop under 10mb, etc, so even the claim you need to pay for a 3rd party app to use the phone in a stable way is not valid...the free sm pro will do for people that need a better task manager, something always usefull in symbian phones. Tail and koto, you guys must try it, i just use sm to close apps, then cclose sm itself...actually it seem some apps work better without sm on background

Ares,
I am with you here. I use the SM Pro from time to time, sporadically to close apps. Once done, I shut SMPro down.

Put bluntly and simply this device should not of shipped till it had reached the Firmwares released in 2007 as then the complaints would of been negligible and easily resolved. SE launched 6 months early due to it already being so severely delayed and they wanted your money.

Well i agree with most of Dogmans points myself, although R7 on mine has no issues & i know many others with perfectly good phones on R7 & that was a October 2006 firmware i believe.

@Koto,
I have not forgotten what i said but you and every one elses latest posts and reports confirm that until the latest updates you were having to take various actions to maintain a workable and stable device and although it worked for most of you that was not right or how it should of been for a very expensive flagship device was it?.

Now since early this Year this is no longer as important or in some cases even necessary. Does this not prove that this is how this Flagship device should of originally shipped? and not before it reached this state? Plus lets not forget that throughout this whole process SE has remained silent and again that is what i say is wrong with what SE have done and how they treated their paying customers. This and this alone is what i find unacceptable behaviour and just because it is now OK or nearly there it does not excuse or justify thier actions up to now and never will IMO.

Now this really is the last thing i am going to say on this whole sorry affair as i don't own any SE products any longer and sincerely doubt i ever will again. I am glad you have all now started to get the devices you deserved to get last August even if it has taken 7 months. But to be totally honest i really just don't care anymore just couldn't stand the way some would hear no criticism and thought SE were justified in their actions.

Wow!
i'm the first to suggest constructive criticism is a good think..( more than that.. essential.. in this over regulated over controlled world we live in) but class actions and the some of the complains i heard.... lets put this in to perspective for a second.. all the toys we have are imperfect.. simple fact of life..
if the P990i was the most perfect smart phone ever, who would buy a pXXX? (loaded question..) So might i suggest the P990i is as good a job as sony can manage at the time? Am sure 90% of us are using Microsoft OS... but we all seem to accept its serious failings... We have alternatives...

I noticed the rest of the world seemed (on this forum at least!)to have p990's long before the UK.. and i thank you all, because when it hit UK markets at the end of 06, mine at least has proved to be trouble free.. So if you folks did all the beta testing.. sorry.. and thx..

I cant accept the... "my p800, 900, 910 did this but my 990 doesn't" type stuff.. lets face it.. things change! Thinking you'd complain if stuff was the same!

My point? It is what it is.. if you not like it.. by all means rant here, as we all ready to listen, but then go buy a Nokia.. (which reminds me.. we pay very little for handsets in the uk.. so its hard to complain!!) less sales will mean sony will listen! really...

how about checking out this thread:

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=140068

and see how my p990 keeps me alive.. yes it is that impressive a device

finally welcome moobekk, hope we see you posting again soon

cheers Oz

@dogmann
The post I showed you is from November 06. At that time (and even before) all of the things you are talking about now was clear to everybody and everybody agreed on your comment because it was a fact. So it is not that latest posts and reports confirm it, far from it. IMO if anybody has longer term lost from those early mistakes it is SE and they absolutely deserve it. I don't sympathies with them at all regarding that. I don't know what should be said about it any more that won' look like a broken record repeating the same thing.

Your decision to sell M600 and never buy SE product any more is fine with everybody IMO, even with so called SE fan boys. You have every right to do that. You choosed N93, it is a very good phone and I am sure you enjoy it. We were under impression that you expect everybody to follow your example, but fer enough from your side to recognise P990 in your last post as a good phone which users deserve.
So I believe that we understand each other and can conclude this sorry affair.

Hi Koto,
Thank you for your understanding but i have never ever suggested everyone should sell their P990's and get a N93. As it certainly is not a device that everyone would or should like my anger has never been at P990 users as in fact i have felt sorry for them and how they have been treated my anger has always been at SE for releasing this product before it was ready. It really was that simple it is only some that defended SE's actions and could not see them as having done anything wrong and accused me of being an SE hater for daring to criticize SE's actions.

Really glad that you sorted this thing out. And yes Dogmann, I allsow understand you. And agree with you with most of the things. I to was very angry at SE, but right now im just a very happy user of the P990i. The 2 latest f/w sorted out all of my problems. It is now a really useble toy. And from now on i will not use my Nokia N80 anymore
