I also tried it, it definatly improved but the DOWN key is still a bit lame at times, those things you are suppose to bend are just very very smal and but the the right tools this is a great solution!!...

I have a much simpiler way.

I had the same thing with my w800. But if you move the joystic around vigirously for a few seconds it works with no problem! I havnt had a joystick prob since!

Just thought I'd say thanks to the guy who put these instructions together!

I was so fed up with my phone that it nearly got thrown around the room a few times.

Tried this trick today and it was so simple to do and has worked really well. I think I'm going to do it again as my down isn't working 100% of the time.

Now my phone is usable again!! Cheers!

Forget the knockers who are quick to criticise - THIS METHOD WORKS !!
All you doubters have to do is be very careful and follow it to the letter.

But I would recommend using a (flatend) minature screwdriver.
If you get lucky like me, you can take out the keys still attached to the rubber pad - they all came out at once.
This saved some time i guess.
Just be careful with your mini screwdriver when levering out the buttons (top, middle first -joystick side)
My phones ''down shift' didnt work so I concentrated on the metal contact underneath the joystick and with the flat end of the Screwdriver pushed it firmly n carefully toward the joystick 2 or 3 times.

I then quickly but battery in and checked joystick b4 putting keypad back on, it wasn't perfect so I repeated (battery out again!) - and then it was OK!
Thanks for helping fix my phone man!!!

PS: I don't care about scratchy phones either - IT ISNT JEWELLERY!

Thanks conzepth! The down arrow on my joystick registered only 30-40% of the time I pressed it. your tutorial worked like a charm, now it registers at about 85% of the time. I may have to redo the tutorial and push the pins closer to the centre for it to work 100%. Glad to know I no longer need to send it back to Sony for repair.
